It’s great for the price; gps is decent plays all types of formats but if iPod connectivity is a big thing for you, then it’s a total let down. Shuffle is not at all random, it plays songs in the same order therefore rendering shuffle useless. It doesn’t display album art nor display info properly. This headunit also limits the bass output to speakers. You get what you paid for.

Just bought this and installed. It worked initially, but then on the second power-up, it only says “Navigation System not Found”. It says “Bad Card” on the SD. I tried several other 1GB SD cards to see if it would read the MP3 files. It just says “Bad Card” on every single SD card I tried. I reset the unit several times. Called Valor Tech Support, but they could not figure out why.
Don’t waste your money on this. I will return to Amazon and try the Kenwood unit.
I also tried using Windows XP, instead of Vista to download & unzip the firmware from the Valor website for the NVG-606w. Did not work.
It seems like there is something wrong with the SD card reader.
After trying several SD cards, it would finally read the MP3 files. But then when I power it off and on again, it would say “Bad Card” and “Can’t Find Navigation System”.
Lesson learned: Buy a high quality unit from kenwood, Pioneer, or Panasonic.

The sound is great although I have noticed I lost the bump of bass sound, but not a problem as I mostly listen to alternative rock. Enables user to set Bass, Treble, and Sub frequencies plus Bass Q-factor which I’m not really clear on its function. I’ve used the front Aux port and it works great with my mp3-player and the shuffle works woah! I hear ipods don’t function as well… Also has a usb and sd port.
I think the navigation is wonderful. The maps look professional unlike some other nav units I’ve seen. Accurately estimates arrival times. Reroutes after missing a turn. Unit is speedy and has never crashed. Has once given me directions using a road that doesn’t exist lol.
DVD is terrific quality! When driving at night the screen can be a little blinding and the only way to adjust brightness is from the remote and it’s still an annoyance.
Installed this product myself. Bought from Crutchfield with wiring harness, faceplate, and great instructions. Easy installation

I primarily wanted to use this headunit for ipod playback and navigation.
Ipod:
-No playlist support.
-The menus are VERY slow to navigate and badly laid out. Over 1 min to find an artist.
-After selecting an artist you cannot select an album. It displays every song by that artist.
-Pushing the up button doesnt go up one level, instead it heads back to the main menu to search every list again.
-While using the navigation unit it incorrectly displays all tags as unknown.
-Wont work at all with the iphone.
-No way to input what song/artist you would like to jump to.
-If a song changes while you are picking another song it ignores your selection.
Navigation:
-Clunky to use
-you have to dig through a menu when you reach your destination to cancel the trip.
-No music control.
-The womans voice sounds like she is talking through a sock in her mouth.
-It picks obtuse routes.
-Crashes often.
-It asks every time it starts up to agree to the TOS.
TouchScreen:
-75% of the time It will not recognize touches, made worse with slow menus.
-Many menu items are too close to the edge of the screen to push
-If push is actually recognized it shows the animation of the button being pushed but not released and then does nothing.
Misc:
-No rear per-amp out. Rear output is for a separate source.
-Only easy way to change input is with remote. Input text is partially off the screen.
Returned the unit.

Installation relatively painless. Purchased installation instructions, wiring harness and mounting bracket from other online audio supply dealer. Unit was installed in 2003 Ford Expedition. The installation was performed on a Saturday morning. The only SNAFU experienced was when powering on the system and trying to initialize the GPS a warning message would appear stating something to the effect of ‘invalid license key’ and then an input screen would pop up for key entry. Nothing in any associatated documentation regarding license key, unlock code, or how to obtain such. An email and then telephone message were left with tech support regarding the issue. Appears there is no support provided on weekends. Monday a friendly tech support returned the call with the unlock code and an email was also received with same unlock code. Once the code was entered the system functioned just fine.
Pros:
The sound is much of an inprovement over the stock CD / tape deck that was purchased with the vehicle. Nice match for the Infinity Kappa speakers I previously installed. The convenience of AUX, USB and SD all in the front panel were a big plus for me (I have not hooked iPod to the read media input, the front AUX is more convenient.)
Cons:
Confusion of the unlock code resulted in my spending a few hours trying to hack the system into working state while waiting for tech support to return calls. GPS only runs from maps in the SD card. This prohibits playing SD based music when navigation is enabled. (Not really a big issue.) The unit will display song titles for USB based songs, but does not for standard CD format music – just Track01, Track09, etc.
