Ferrari officially recalls the 458 Italia - September 1, 2010 by admin

Ferrari has finally issued a safety recall of the 458 Italia. Yes, finally.

After a disastrous few months that featured no less than five 458s inexplicably catching fire, the Italian supercar maker has finally conceded that there may, in fact, be something wrong with their new pride and joy.

Ferrari finally issued the recall after discovering that a certain adhesive material they used to attach a heat shield under the car’s rear fender has the potential to catch fire when subjected to high temperatures, which, in turn, could lead to a fire in the car’s engine. From all the photos we’ve seen of the burning 458s, each one of them looks to have taken place in the rear end of the car, which could indeed point to the adhesive as the main culprit behind the 458 barbecue fest.

To fix the problem, Ferrari has designed a new heat shield material that can replace the use of the defective adhesive by attaching it with rivets thereby completely removing the adhesive material that has caused all of these fires. So, if you happen to own a still-to-catch-fire 458 Italia, it’s absolutely a-must to contact your dealer as soon as possible and have this egregious problem fixed. You never know; if you don’t act quickly, that fire just might catch up to you and your beloved supercar.

What’s wrong with the Ferrari 458 Italia? - August 20, 2010 by admin

We’re posing this question not because we think that there’s something mysteriously wrong with this car, but because it seems that just about every waking day that we open our eyes and log on to the Internet, we come across another news story of a Ferrari 458 Italia catching fire or getting involved in some kind of accident.

In the past week alone, we’ve reported three models of Ferrari’s new sports car each meeting untimely demises – one caught fire at London’s Heathrow Airport, one crashed into a tree in Maranello, and another one suffered the same fate in the UK.

Today, we’re once again burdened with the same depressing news: another Ferrari 458 Italia suffering another meltdown.

This time, the scene is in America – Costa Mesa, California, to be exact – where the first 458 Italia in the country was burned down to a crisp as a result of the engine catching fire. This doesn’t trouble us anymore, actually. What really boggles our minds is that since the middle of May when the first reported crash of the 458 Italia happened, there have been 9 separate incidents of the car crashing or getting burned. To put that in perspective, that’s one car every 10 days.

So excuse us if we think that there might be some higher power at work that doesn’t seem to be too fascinated with the car like the rest of us. The whole trend is completely perplexing and certainly lacks of any concrete explanation.

It seems that August is not a good month for the new Ferrari 458 Italia. There were three incidents reported during these past weeks alone and today another one was reported. This incident saw the Ferrari’s life come to a fiery end at a cargo warehouse at the London Heathrow airport.

The Ferrari was a Giallo Modena Ferrari 458 Italia with a custom made Dolce & Gabbana interior created for an Arabian customer. The biggest concern for this particular incident is who’s footing the bill for such a catastrophic event. Apparently, the Ferrari was going to be transported, but never made the trip due to the fire at the warehouse. Read the following paragraph where the pointing of the fingers begins.

“Under Article 18 of the Convention the carrier is liable for damage to cargo which occurs during the period defined by the Convention as ’carriage by air’. Carriage by air is defined as ’the period during which the cargo is in the charge of the carrier, whether in an airport or on board an aircraft’. The Air Waybill on which the Ferrari car was consigned shows the gross weight of 1,650 kilos and consequently our client’s liability is limited to 31,350 Special Drawing Rights (approximately US $ 46,994.70). We would be obliged if all future correspondence concerning this matter could be addressed to us at the above address quoting our reference.”

Check out the video to see the car before and after the fire, and while you’re at it, comment on who you think should pay for the damages.

The 1959-60 Ferrari 250 SWB Berlinetta - August 8, 2010 by Mark A Cella

Mark A Cella and the Ferrari 250 cc Grand Touring Sport Coupe for Competition

The precursor to the Berlinetta, which means “Sport Coupe,” was the Ferrari 250 GTO. Indeed the GTO was built on the strength of Ferrari’s record producing V12 GT racers. GTO equates to “Gran Turismo Omologato,” Italian for “Grand Touring Homologated,” while homologated means “Official Agreement”. The 250 is the cubic centimeter displacement of each cylinder in the engine.

Mark A Cella’s Official Agreement is the Car is for Pure Racing

From 1953-64 Ferrari built the SWB model which truly put Ferrari on the center stage. It was their most acknowledged line. It was the first Ferrari to have four wheel disc brakes. It had a model which was the first four seater for this sports car. It had a V12 weighing half as much of competitors, cranking out up to 280bhp at 7000 rpm. It’s 4 gear race engine rocketed its victories at so many races the list is endless so here’s just a few:

The first four places in its class at the 1960 Le Mans 24 hour race, leaving Chevy and Aston Martin far in its dust. With three consecutive Tour de France wins, taking the first three places at the 1960 Tour de France, 5500 km race. Later that season the SWB won outright, at Goodwood when Sterling Moss lapped the entire field in it, making it the second consecutive win. Then in England, Monza in Italy, Spa, Nurburgring, and Monthlery.

The car weighs only 2,314 pounds which equates to a very high power to weight ratio. Its top speed reached 152 and it hit 60 from a dead stop in 6.2 seconds. All of these figures were superb in 1960.

Mark A Cella Agrees it’s One of the Greatest Ferraris Ever Built

It is said that owners of this car had the luxury and thrill of being able to drive it to the race track, unload their luggage and be ready to race with minimal or no modifications. Just place their numbers on the sides and race. Although the competition models did have an extra 30-40 horsepower and other modifications like shorter wheel base, and aluminum vs. steal, not much could help most other manufacturers.

Out of the ten Greatest Ferraris of all time, Motor Trend ranked this one 5th. Sports Car International placed it at 7 Top Sports Cars of the 60’s. Mark Cella gave it first place of his 1960’s Muscle Car Picks, second is the 67 Corvette Sting Ray and third being the cherished 1968 Chevy Camaro.

Mark Anthony Cella On The 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione - August 6, 2010 by Mark Anthony Cella

The 250 is the cubic centimeter displacement of each cylinder in the engine.

Mark Anthony Cella’s Official Agreement is the Car is for Pure Racing

The car was built by Ferrari from 1953 to 1964 becoming Ferrari’s most successful line of cars to date. It was the first Ferrari to receive four disc brakes. Versions of it were the first four seater. Having a lightweight V12, 260-275bhp, 4 gear trans., competition engine launched its success at winning so many races recounting in detail would be endless, so here’s a few:

The first four places in its class at the 1960 Le Mans 24 hour race, leaving Chevy and Aston Martin far in its dust. Mark Anthony Cella Officially Agrees One of the Greatest Ferraris of all Time

Owners of this car back in the day could drive it to the track and race it with very minor modifications if they chose. Of course they’d have to slap on their numbers. The competizione models were built for strictly racing so were even lighter with up to 40 more horsepower and a shorter wheelbase making them faster in curves. Nothing could compete to either version.

Motor Trend gave the 250 SWB the ranking of 5th out of ten of the Greatest Ferraris of all time. Sports Car International rated it 7th Top Sports Car of the 1960’s. Mark A Cella rates it his first place 1960’s era Muscle Car, followed by the 1967 Corvette Sting Ray and 1968 Chevy Camaro.

Ferrari Faux Pas F40 finds its way in Hungary - July 31, 2010 by admin

Desperate people are capable of desperate actions, even if the results of what they do become far less appealing than if they had just left everything alone.

Take this man for example.

Clearly, this man has a unique – and maybe even obsessive – love for Ferrari. The only problem is, he doesn’t have one, or at least a real and authentic Prancing Horse. What he does have is a Chevrolet Corvette C4, which, by all accounts, is far from being a run-of-the-mill sports car. But as is the case with obsessive compulsive fixations, the owner of this monstrosity decided – how he decided on this, we’ll never know – to build a replica Ferrari F40 using the Corvette C4.

If you ask us, there are a few things current and hoping Ferrari owners should always know. If you can afford the ride, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have one inside your garage, but if you don’t have the financial wherewithal to buy your own Ferrari, please, for all that is good and holy in this world, do not make any attempts in turning a nice car like a Corvette C4 into the motherload of all horrendously crappy vehicles.

Back in March, Premier4509 unveiled the first details on their new tuning package for the Ferrari F430 with the promise that the package would be available starting in June. Thankfully, it seems the tuner has kept their promise as a gorgeous red Ferrari F430 Premier4509 has been spotted in Germany.

There will only be 300 units of this beautiful car out there, each coming with new bumpers front and rear, new side skirts, a new diffuser, and a big spoiler. The car also comes with 19-inch and 20-inch wheels on the front and rear, respectively. Customers can also opt to receive a rear wing and exhaust tip for their beautiful vehicle.

We just hope that as many customers as possible will choose this incredible red instead of that fade white firstly unveiled by Premier4509. The red follows suit with the Ferrari spirit much better!

A few months ago, we featured the first of two high-speed roller coasters Ferrari is launching as two of its main attractions on their soon-to-be-opened-but-already-reeks-of-awesomeness theme park, Ferrari World.

The new Formula One-inspired roller coaster has been dubbed as “Formula Rossa” and according to Ferrari, has been designed to simulate the experience of driving a real Formula One race car. Just so you can get a sense of perspective as to how fast the Formula Rossa is, consider that it can go from 0-60 mph in two seconds flat. In addition to that, it can blast off from it’s stationary state all the way up to its highest peak in a little less than five seconds. And oh, did we mention the ride’s 20,800 horsepower winch system and the 1.7 Gs that F2 drivers encounter just about every lap of every race.

Excited, aren’t you? Well, if you can’t ride the real thing until after it’s launched sometime in July, then might we suggest you watch the video and see what the growing fascination with the Formula Rossa roller-coaster is all about.
