Forgive us for showing more than our usual movie trailers here, but we can’t help it when these trailers have some of the most mouth-watering cars – real or otherwise – we’ve ever laid our eyes on.

This trailer is the second one released for Tron Legacy and as is often the case when a movie has a futuristic undertone to it, you get a healthy dose of ‘highly-advanced’ vehicles on it.

Tron Legacy is no different and it’s got the future rides in abundance. From those light cycles to that indescribable four-wheel, two-seater doing a burnout, you can’t ask for a lot more than that. Check out the trailer and tell us if you feel different. Chances are, you’re going to watch it over and over again, too – just like us.

Spy shots never get old, especially when the car that’s being caught on camera is a yet-to-be-released Ferrari 599 GTO.

These latest set of photos – the third we’ve seen of the new Ferrari supercar – was taken just outside the Prancing Horse’s Maranello production facility, showing the 599 GTO in its already-familiar, not-so-camouflaged garb.

As the first GTO to come out of Maranello since the 288 GTO of the 80’s, Ferrari is taking great lengths in making the 599 GTO live up to enormous expectations set around the GTO line. No info has been released yet, but rumors have circulated that the 599 GTO will come with a 6.0-liter V12 engine that produces as much as 700 horsepower and around 9000rpm.

Ferrari is expected to produce a limited run of the 599 GTO – around just 500 – where it will roll out of production sometime in the latter part of the year and be sold for a neck-tingling £ 300,000 ($450,000)

After we have seen the Honda CR-Z at the 2010 Detroit auto show, we have another good new for you. The Japanese company is also preparing a Type-R version of the hybrid car and it will be launched in 2011.

The Type R version will be defined by daytime running lights in the front apron and a black rear diffuser with integrated exhaust pipes, black bonnet, wing mirrors and wheels and an alpine-white paint scheme on the rest of the car.

While the standard CR-Z develops a total of 122 hp, the Type-R version will go up to 200hp. This will be possible thanks to a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine that will develop a total of 150 hp and a larger 50bhp electric motor. The result will be a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.

The Cr-Z Type-R will debut next year at the Tokyo Auto Show and will go on sale shortly after.

General Motors announced that the Buick line-up will be expanded with a new coupe model in the next few years. The future coupe will be a “statement, all the design cues and everything would drive themselves down into all Buicks.”

“Buick definitely needs more product in the pipeline. My role is really being a zealot for getting Buick more youthful, more spirited and probing ideas [for] coupes, more expressive vehicles. That is really my job,” said John Cafaro, director of design for Buick and Chevrolet.

“Buick is kind of going through what Cadillac went through” when it reinvented itself, he said. “Cadillac said: ’What we are doing is not working. Our customers are dying off. We have to carve a new image.’ That is where Buick is right now.”

Dodge reveals sketch of new compact concept car during lunch meeting in Chicago - February 17, 2010 by admin

In a lunch sponsored by Dodge at the Economic Club of Chicago just outside the Chicago Auto Show, the company unveiled a sketch of what could be a new compact car the brand is planning on creating in the future.
Presented by Dodge head honcho and Chrysler Senior VP Ralph Giles, the sketch resembles a three-door compact hatchback whose sleek and swooping design has led to speculation that the car might show up at a future auto show as a new concept.

There are no further details as to what Dodge has in store for the concept so it’s anybody’s guess really as to when – or if – the potential compact car will be released in the future. Other than showing off the sketch of the car, Dodge is keeping their cards close to their vests on this one.

What we do know is that when Fiat took over Chrysler, one of the Italian auto giant’s first points of emphasis was to add a compact segment to a number of Chrysler-owned brands, most notably that of Dodge. Taking from this, we’re guessing that the sketch they showed at the Economic Club of Chicago will be the first of what promises to be many versions of the promised Dodge compact vehicle.

Ford announces the production of a new Mercury compact car; targeted release will be 2011 - February 15, 2010 by admin

It’s been a while since we last saw a new Mercury roll out of production, but if Ford’s President of the Americas Mark Fields is to be believed, we might just see a new one out sometime soon.

Based on Ford’s new global compact car platform, Fields recently announced that the company is scheduled to release up to 10 vehicles for its compact car architecture with one of them being a new – yet still to-be-named – Mercury compact car.

Speaking to a group of Ford’s US dealers at the National Automobile Dealers Association in Orlando, Florida recently, Fields made it known that Ford is exahusting any and all efforts in jump-starting some life into a Mercury brand that has been relatively idle for quite some time now.

It’s worth noting that while Mercury didn’t suffer the same fate as some of Ford’s other brands – Tracer, Sable, and Cougar – the fact that it hadn’t released a new model a while has led to some spculation that Mercury’s head would also end up on the chopping block.

But now that we’ve heard the brand is getting a new car straight from the horse’s mouth, it should douse any lingering doubts as to whether or not the future of Mercury remains in question.

A big part of Ford’s decision to produce a compact Mercury is caused by the increasing interest for fuel-efficient mid-premium cars has also given Ford the green light to jumpstart Mercury by releasing its own model that fits that particular market segment.

“The trend towards more fuel-efficient vehicles is very important, the trend toward (small) cars in general is coming back. We are responding to that,” Fields said.

When Jean Todt relinquished his role as CEO of Ferrari last year, the man who most claim to be driving force behind the Italian super car builder’s engineering efforts, Amedeo Felisa, took over the reigns of the prancing horse. During the opening of a new Maserati-Ferrari showroom in Sydney, Australia, the current Chief Executive Officer offered up a little insight into the Maranello based sports car builder’s future. Plans that include a 458 Spider, a 599 hybrid concept that will be on display in Geneva next month as well as an even more powerful light weight GTO variant of the V12 powered GT car and a new Enzo super car.

According to Mr. Felisa: “We will present the new concept of the hybrid at Geneva. It will be based on the 599, but that doesn’t mean it will debut on that model,…We have a plan to introduce on our cars new technology that will reduce consumption and emissions,…The next step is to apply the technology on Ferrari cars.” An approach that the Scuderia gained some experience with the F60, regardless of the fact that the FIA has banned the hybrid like Kinetic Energy Recovery System from Formula One competition in 2010.

BMW has big plans for 2011 but no news about an M5 - January 29, 2010 by admin

The German automaker BMW has quite a bit in store for the upcoming model year, from the Z4 hard top roadster to the 335is that squeezes into the range right below the factory tuned track day special M3, there is even an all new set of twin scroll turbochargers bolted to the 3.0 Liter straight six that will spool up faster offering even more power off the line as well as improved efficiency. However one member of the Bavarian lineup that the luxury automaker is keeping a bit tight lipped about is the upcoming M5.

With the current trend favoring fuel economy over sheer horse power, automakers around the world are downsizing their engine lineups in order to meet stringent efficiency regulations and that means that the current 500 HP V10 found under the hood of the high performance four door is more than likely to go the way of the dinosaurs. BMW states that “a new M5 Sedan based on the upcoming 6th generation 5 Series is planned but not ready to be unveiled yet,” this means that BMW either has something big in the works or they don’t want to rain on the all new 5 Series GT’s parade.

However in these fossil fuel conserving times BMW was already expected to drop the high revving teen cylinder in favor of a twin turbo V8, similar to the setup found under the hood of the X5 M and X6 M, but don’t expect for the future M5 to make anything less then the current M5, and should remain somewhere in the 550 HP range if they want to stay competitive with their German rival, the 572 HP Audi RS6. Nevertheless you should remember Toyota’s fifth generation Supra turbo, powered by a stout 3.0 Liter straight six and capable of making as much as 1000 HP without even having to crack open the engine. The inline configuration has long been considered the perfect configuration because of its ability to rev smoothly and if BMW can apply some of their new twin scroll technology to the next generation M5, loads of power shouldn’t be that far off.

Press release after the jump.
