Mulholland highway, the favorite play ground for LA riders has claimed yet another motorcycle crash on those sinuous curves and this time it was a beginning rider on a Honda NX250. His first time on the twisties turned into a lesson to never approach corners faster than he’s able to negociate them. But we should all learn from his mistake and drop point fixation in favor of counter steering.

A couple of months ago we posted an official Suzuki video showing how their 1993 GSX-R750 came to life. While that was very interesting despite the age, imagine how exciting it is to see how today’s Suzuki GSX-R1000 superbike is born at the Japanese plant in Hamamatsu. The attached video takes us through the most important fabrication processes, allowing riders to understand just how brilliantly their bikes are being put together.

The friends at MrHornig have come up with a rather unusual motorcycle vs car comparison as the challenger is the 2010 BMW S1000RR superbike and the challenged a 2008 BMW M3 E92. Considering that the S1000RR benefits of 193 horsepower while weighing 183kg and the M3 is a 420 horsepower blast weighing 1.655kg, we invite you to do the math for the power-to-weight ratio or, even better, check out the video and see which one is faster in a straight line.

The Italian way to Triumph - May 4, 2010 by admin

Triumph special

Italian customizing specialists Gallimoto have recently presented three new Triumph Bonneville specials that they’ve put together. Called Bonneville Six Days, Goldenboy and Bullitt, the English bikes with an Italian feel are pretty much the same, but oh so very different.

The Bonneville Six Days is based on the current Bonnie and stand out thanks to a khaki green paint job, black wire wheels, biturbo twin shocks and new indicators. The bike pays tribute to Steve McQueen who competed in the International Six Days Trial in 1964 on a Triumph and costs approximately $16.5K.

The Goldenboy started as a stock Bonneville SE, but now features black finished mag wheels, low fitted handlebars, an aluminum front mudguard and seat unit and megaton exhausts, but also Dunlop sportsmax-tires, sintered pads and adjustable twin shocks. Finished in red and gold, this special one also costs around $16.5K.

The Bullit gets mag wheels and Biturbo twin shocks as well as an alloy fuel cap and control levers and pressed aluminum chainguard, sprocket cover and front and rear mudguards. It is finished in silver and with a cost of approximately $16.8K it is the most expensive of them all although the difference is inconsiderable when you’re paying that much for a Bonneville.

Although these bikes don’t seem to have undergone radical customizing processes, they’re whole different stories than their standard siblings and we’re glad to see that café racer influences still catch on to the European motorcyclist today.

1977 Billetproof Customs KZ 400 Café Racer

32. 1977 Billetproof Customs KZ 400 Café Racer

Take a look at this 1977 Kawasaki KZ400 in the small photo and at the veritable café racer above only to find that there are little similarities, enough to have you say we’re talking about two different bikes. But it is precisely the ease of transforming an old Japanese bike into a café racer what impresses us the most about this project.

Billetproof Customs bought the bike for $300. The reliable engine still ran good, so it was worth stripping everything off of it in order to see what can be done from a fresh start. Said and done. They started with the frame, which was seriously modified and then they built the wheels and brought in lowered front shocks and custom shortened rear shocks. The old Kawi was now 2 inches lower and got itself a much more aggressive stance also thanks to the shortened clubman bars.

The bodywork was next. A refurbished 1979 Suzuki GT 500 fuel tank found its place on top of the frame together with the one-piece seat and rear tail section, which were custom made out of fiberglass by the builder. The reconditioned engine was now ready to go back on and it was fed through a single carb instead of its original dual ones. Also, it now features custom made and wrapped exhaust pipes and so they obtained a retro look instead of the classy one that chrome would have given the bike.

After adding a disc front brake and custom drilling the rear drum as well as hiding the battery under the tail section, the bike was ready for painting. Like all the above mentioned, this was done by the manufacturer and Kaki was the color of choice. Other nice details worth mentioning are the headlight, bar end mirrors and speedo, taillight as well as the custom stitched seat in between. Hit the jump for a multitude of photos.

E-TX Urban

As cities are getting crowdier every day, more and more urban electric concept vehicles emerge and this precise one called the E-TX Urban looks kind of good. Entirely electric, rechargeable via an AC outlet and powered by a Roadson Etronic 16 generator developing an impressive 132.5 kw, this is the kind of electric bike a wheelie lover would ride in the future.

French designer Bako claims a top speed of 150 mph, but that’s a bit unrealistic as the 2010 Zero Street, which is now being produced, top out at 67 mph. That’s the big and important part that currently makes the E-TX Urban a concept vehicle.

Honda Goldwing takes on the race track! - April 5, 2010 by admin

Check this out! A track riding instructor took his Honda Goldwing for a spin during a trackday in London, New Hampshire. The bike may not be exactly in its element and I’m sure the guy riding doesn’t feel as confident as on a CBR1000RR model, but as hard as it may be to believe, he actually manages to scrap a knee and live to tell the tale…or post in on youtube.

That’s kind of like driving a stretch limo around a race track only that much more spectacular!
