We finally got our first look at the 2022 BMW M2. The compact sports car is still heavily camouflaged, but a few details can already be seen. And real BMW fans can also breathe a sigh of relief – the new M2 retains rear-wheel drive.
The smallest of the M models is getting a new edition and has been spotted during winter test drives. The concerns of the BMW purists that after the 1 Series will now also have a front-wheel-drive have now been dispelled. The sporty compact is still very much covered.
It will be a while before the production version of the new M2 turns its rounds on the streets. But you can get current BMW M2 offers and save an average of 8,400 euros.
2022 BMW M2 Prices
The new BMW M2 is not expected to be presented until 2022 and will then be launched on the market in spring 2023. The current M2 version costs 51,200 euros, the new model is sure to cost a few euros more. We assume a base price of 55,000 euros or more.
Engines
As far as the engines are concerned, there are no official statements yet, we can only speculate for now. But if we look at the new M3 and M4 models, we assume that the M2 will get a slightly modified version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo. The in-line six-cylinder engine produces 480 hp and 550 Nm of torque. But since it is the smallest M, these values will certainly be screwed down a bit. How far we will have to wait and see.
The current M2 CS has 450 hp, so you can be quite satisfied with that. The competition version of the new M2 will probably also produce over 410 hp.
Exterior design
The characteristic quadruple exhaust system cannot be overlooked at the rear and, like the upcoming 4 Series Gran Coupé, the new 2 Series will also have the newly designed door handles that are flush with the body. You can see that the new door handles have already been fitted by the white stickers, which are supposed to prevent an early look.
Also, an additional layer of camouflage film was attached to the C-pillar, you can see small black rivets, there are plates attached. We assume that the newly designed Hofmeister kink should be hidden in this way.
And the most important thing: the rear-wheel-drive remains with the M2!
As far as the exterior design is concerned, we can’t yet say whether the camouflage hides the huge grill of the new M4 – we would estimate that the M2 doesn’t get it. But that is far from certain. The long bonnet and the short tail are retained in the M2. The large brakes and the M side mirrors also prove that we saw the new M model in the snow. The taillights and headlights already seem to have their final look, which we saw in the pre-production version a year ago, on the normal 2-series model.
2022 BMW M2 Interior
The interior will still be a surprise, but one will certainly orientate oneself partly on the new M3 and M4 and provide some comfort and assistance systems. But more details are not yet known.
