2022 Kia Sportage European version officially introduced

The 2022 Kia Sportage is relaunched. The fifth generation of the popular SUV has already been presented – but there will be a special European version. The first sketches for this version have now been published. The model for the European market celebrated its premiere on September 1st. We have pictures and information for you.

The Kia Sportage has been around for 28 years – and now there will be its European version. The Sportage is getting a new design because Kia recently introduced a new design language that will unite all models in “Opposites United” in the future. Of course, there will also be a plug-in hybrid.

  • Premiere of the European version of the Sportage
  • Striking, sporty design
  • Inspired by the EV6
  • The plug-in hybrid version available
  • Sportage stays compact

The new Sportage is designed according to the new Kia design language, which brings together nature and modernity. Opposites should be connected, and the Sportage should do that. In everything that the Sportage is or shows, the character of the opposites is in the foreground.

The last pillar, in particular, Bold for Nature, is one of the most important for design, because it creates a naturalness that is nevertheless daring and should be emotionally appealing.

Above all, the Sportage has been kept compact for the version for Europe. The global variant has become much longer. A sporty and self-confident approach has also been chosen. Compared to the model developed for the other world markets, the European version has a compact, livelier profile. Here, more emphasis was placed on agility and performance, because that is important for European customers.

The silhouette of the Sportage is accordingly muscular and powerful and elegant. Sharp character lines on the surface are probably part of the new design, as is the front with a radiator grille graphic with many details that fills the entire width of the vehicle. The “tiger nose” is also available, but combined with boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. Those who opt for the GT-Line can for the first time also order the Sportage with a black contrasting roof.

When it comes to engines, Kia also offers a plug-in hybrid version for the European market. These drives are currently in great demand and should therefore not be missing for the Sportage. The plug-in hybrid is Sportage’s top model. A 1.6-liter gasoline engine with an output of 180 hp beats under the hood. There is also a 66.9 kW electric motor, which gives the Sportage a total output of 265 hp.

There will also be a normal hybrid with the same engine, but the power here is only 230 hp. The Sportage is also offered as a mild hybrid, with power versions with 150 and 180 hp to choose from. There is also a diesel, the 1.6-liter turbodiesel makes 115 or 136 hp. Either a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a manual 6-speed transmission is available for all drive versions.

Interior

The clear concept can also be found in the interior. On the interior picture of the “normal” Sportage, one can see a large, curved screen. The interior looks tidy, there are no more switches and buttons to be found than necessary. If we can see it correctly, then one still seems to rely on manual rotary switches for the important things such as volume control and air conditioning – a very good idea!

Overall, the interior offers intuitive and innovative technology, a strong driver-oriented focus, and modernity. The ergonomically designed center console is optimally positioned for the front passengers and offers a lot of comforts. It is finished in high gloss and has enough storage space.

The interior is clad in high-quality materials that are available in different colors and, in conjunction with chrome elements, leave a sporty impression. The clothes hangers integrated into the back of the front seats are a practical feature so that bags and items of clothing can be tidily stowed away and do not disrupt the comfort of the rear passengers. We’ll see if the interior of the European model will be similar.

For the first time, the fifth generation of the 2022 Kia Sportage is also available as a European version, which premiered on September 1st. The Sportage will then be shown at the IAA in Munich.

The manufacturer has not yet specified prices. The current 2022 Kia Sportage starts at a price of just under 23,000 euros. The new model is sure to be a little more expensive. We assume that at least 25,000 euros will be due. According to the manufacturer, the market launch in Germany is planned for the beginning of 2022.
