2022 Kia Sportage: Specific version for Europe

The coming-out of the fifth generation Kia Sportage is just around the corner. However, the model that will be presented soon will not reach European dealers. The European-specific version of Kia’s revamped compact SUV will be unveiled in a few months. We advance some of its keys and design through a new recreation.

Everything is ready to experience the great presentation in the society of the new Kia Sportage. The fifth generation of Kia’s iconic and successful compact SUV will make its world debut in South Korea this July. However, and before the said event takes place, which we must mark on the calendar, the company will reveal various information until the long-awaited appointment takes place in Asian territory.

Now, will the model that will be unveiled in July be the one we see in our dealerships? The truth is that no. The new Kia Sportage 2022 will have a specific version for Europe. A version that will not be released for a few months. And it makes all the sense in the world that the brand chooses to create a specific offer for the European territory.

The European version of the new Kia Sportage 2022

The Sportage is one of the central pillars on which the Kia range is based in Europe. A model that over the years has been able to boast of being the best-selling of the brand. Therefore, it is logical that Kia wants to give prominence to the European market. Moreover, during the development process (which has not yet finished), a good part of the tests carried out have taken place in the Old Continent. Furthermore, development has been concentrated in both South Korea and Europe.

That is why the images that will be released by the brand itself will soon show us the Sportage that will land in the South Korean dealerships. The details of the European version of the new Sportage will be unveiled in September 2021. Therefore, we still have to wait longer to take a look at the generational change that this SUV will undergo. It will be the first time in the model’s 28-year history that there will be a version dedicated exclusively to Europe.

The fifth generation of the Sportage will bring with it a huge number of new features. Some novelties will go from the aesthetic section to the machine through the technological one. In short, a comprehensive set-up to adapt this bestseller to the new times. Times in which electrification, connectivity, and automation gain weight at an accelerated rate.

The design

The spy photos published on Motor.es over the last few months have allowed us to discover some keys to the design of the new Sportage. This, added to the recreations, such as the one at the head of this article, bring us (and a lot) closer to the final look that the production vehicle will wear. It will embrace Kia’s new “Opposites United” design philosophy. A language that we already see in models like the Kia Sorento.

By its forms, it will remain quickly recognizable as a Sportage. Now, the front and rear light groups will be redesigned, will debut bumpers and a new large grille. The result is obvious to the eye. A more daring and modern SUV.

Inside there will also be changes. The brand itself indicates the space that will be available. The nerve center will be a new curved screen. The environment will be more digital. The Sportage, one of the best midsize SUVs, will make a huge leap in terms of connectivity, comfort, and safety. Numerous resources have also been allocated to increase the perception of quality.

The commitment of the new Kia Sportage 2022 for electrification

What will happen at the mechanical level? The engine range will consist of a selection of gasoline and diesel engines. The light (MHEV) hybrid technology 48V will still be present. Taking advantage of the generational change, KIA will raise Sportage’s bet on electrification. Two additional variants will be introduced, a full hybrid (HEV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Moreover, even as a long-term future project, the development of a fully electric KIA e-Sportage is on the agenda.

Depending on the chosen engine we will find a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. There will also be front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions.
