2022 Subaru WRX now more capable and fun

With 20 years of history and four generations behind, the Subaru WRX 2022 is renewed from end to end with everything expected of a rally icon: an even more powerful boxer engine, a more advanced chassis, improved all-wheel drive, and an update. technology in the fields of connectivity and security.

Everything about this car is geared towards high performance, even its design. Its aggressive styling is inspired by the Subaru VIZIV Performance Concept, a prototype that the brand introduced in 2017.

Everything about the 2022 Subaru WRX is brand new. The renovation was carried out from a new global platform, which increases torsional stiffness by 28% and allows the adoption of more advanced components for the chassis, such as a longer-travel suspension to improve stability and poise in curves, as well as a rear stabilizer bar that is now more efficient when mounted directly on the body of the vehicle and not on the subframe.

Like all contemporary sports cars, the 2022 WRX also makes use of electronics for a highly customizable driving experience. The driving mode selector offers Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Individual programs to modify the operation of suspension, steering, all-wheel drive, transmission, among others. The brand talks about up to 430 customization options behind the wheel.

Under the hood is a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbo boxer engine, now making 271 hp at 5,600 rpm and 258 lb.-ft. between 2,000 and 5,200 rpm. It employs a Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with torque vector control and offers as an option a six-speed manual transmission or a much faster-shifting automatic CVT, better-tuned high-performance software, and eight-shift paddle-shift manual mode at the wheel.

In terms of technology and equipment, the Subaru WRX 2022 raises the bar by now including an infotainment system with an 11.6-inch HD screen, as well as the full suite of EyeSight assists. It can be configured with a Harman Kardon 11-speaker sound system, navigation, backup camera, and, of course, Recaro sports seats.

Its market launch is scheduled for the first months of 2022 in the United States, so we can expect it in Mexico during the summer of that same year. Among its main competitors are the Hyundai Elantra N and the Audi S3 Sedan.
