Audi Presented Radical Electric Activesphere Concept

Audi already has four prototypes that will define the range of the electric future. The Audi Activesphere Concept has been the last to be presented with a very marked coupé line and unique design concepts.

Over the past year and a half, Audi has been working on its strategy for the future. Even though this year will not be especially positive in terms of novelties, those from Ingolstadt have not stopped creating. The electric age will make its way with new models and a different aesthetic line. The prototypes, the Sphere, presented these months advance many of these concepts. The latest of them has just been officially presented, the Audi Activesphere Concept. It will not be the most luxurious of all, but its format will be one of the most popular in the range.

Following the Audi Skysphere in 2021, and the Audi Grandsphere and Audi Urbansphere concepts presented in 2022, the Audi Activesphere makes its debut as a crossover coupé with an astonishingly versatile four-door body. Many have said that it will be the natural successor to the Audi TT, although its format is outrageously superior. Although it may not look like it in the pictures, we are talking about an SUV that is 4.98 meters long, 2.07 meters wide, 1.60 meters high, and has a wheelbase of 2.97 meters.

From the nose to the rear it is spectacular, to say the least. Borrowing several design concepts already featured in its siblings, the Activesphere Concept adapts them for its unmistakable presentation. The sharp nose invites sportiness, like the marked wheel arches that wear the usual black plastic of all good crossovers. With truly sloping pillars, the bodywork of this concept SUV is capable of being modified at the push of a button. The rear window rises, the tailgate drops and there is an open cargo area that allows you to carry bulky items such as a couple of bicycles.

Inside, the atmosphere is less spectacular. The entire strategy is based on minimalism and luxury. Four occupants can travel inside and the absence of large elements is notable. Despite this digital discretion, the Activesphere advances Level 4 autonomous driving technologies and new systems that will once again place Audi at the forefront of technology. What is guessed is a generous habitability thanks to the fact that the wheels are very separated from each other. Despite this, this is only a prototype and, behind closed doors, we can take a few references.

Regarding the mechanical section, like the rest of its conceptual brothers, the Activesphere uses a 100% electric system. Designed to move joyfully across the field with approach and departure angles of 18.9 and 28.1 degrees respectively, hidden under its slim body is a dual-engine layout with Audi’s customary quattro drive. The benefits, far from being scandalous, offer a quite rational point of view: 442 maximum horsepower and a torque of 720 Nm. There is no data regarding the battery, but its theoretical range far exceeds 600 kilometers.

The PPE platform, which will give life to the next electric Audi, is used in the Activesphere Concept with advanced technologies. With an 800-volt electrical system and a charging power of up to 270 kW in alternating current, it will be possible to recover from 5 to 80% of the battery in just 25 minutes, which means that, under ideal conditions, the barrier of 300 kilometers of range in just 5 minutes of connection. Those figures can be taken as real and definitive for future street products that arise as a result of the Sphere Concept family.
