Audi Q6 2022: Offered for sale in the Chinese market

What was speculatively traded as the Audi Q9 now turns out to be an Audi Q6 manufactured exclusively for China, which competes with the Mercedes GLS and the BMW X7, among others. There are no pictures of the interior yet, but first technical data.

We have been reporting here for a long time about a possible  Audi Q9 2022. Now it turns out: In fact, the mocked Erlkönig is called the Audi Q6 and is an SUV that is probably positioned above the Q7 and is correspondingly larger exclusively for China. Images of the design patent application show the vehicle for the first time without camouflage.

And as expected, we see a boxy SUV that is very similar to the VW Teramont sold in China – in the USA it is called VW Atlas – and is based on the same platform, the modular transverse matrix (MQB). This also makes it clear: This newcomer has nothing in common with the purely electric Q6 e-Tron announced for Europe, neither in terms of size nor technically. Instead, the design: the strong brand identity that is in demand in China is symbolized by a large single-frame radiator grille flanked by narrow headlights.

Audi Q6 2022 PRICE & SPECIFICATIONS

The interior of the Audi Q6 (2022) should offer a similar amount of space as the competition like the BMW X7 or Mercedes GLS and has four individual seats in the rear available as an option. Corresponding images do not yet exist. Standard are three rows of seats with seven seats. Anyone who expected large-volume engines with six or more cylinders given the size and classification of the SUV will be disappointed given the technical data known in March 2022.

Audi Q6 2022

For the time being, the newcomer from the Far East is to be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 265 hp (195 kW) or 231 hp (170 kW), which transfers its power to the road via the Quattro all-wheel drive and thus all four wheels bring. The top speed is 207 km/h. The MQB would offer the possibility to include a VR6 in the range of engines for the Audi Q6 (2022). But that is just as little to be expected as a plug-in hybrid drive. A price for the Audi Q6 (2022) is not yet known, and a market launch in Europe is most likely impossible.
