Audi reveals the silhouette of the Activesphere Concept

Audi has confirmed that its new electric prototype, the Activesphere Concept, will debut on January 26. This crossover will advance the master lines of the new TT, which in its next generation will abandon its 2+2 sports configuration to become a mass product. Its final name could be eTTron.

“The car promises maximum aesthetics and is full of contrasts: cool and warm colors, manual and automated driving mode, avant-garde and aerodynamic, very simple but at the same time very technological,” explained Marc Lichte, Design Director at Audi, about the promising aesthetics of the new model.

The Audi Activesphere Concept is the fourth member of the “Sphere” concept series, which has so far included the Skysphere Concept convertible, the Grandsphere Concept shooting brake, and the Urbansphere Concept minivan. Opposite them, the Activesphere Concept will offer “the maximum versatility for an active lifestyle, both on and off the road”.

Lichte affirms that the vehicle will be inspired by the automotive culture of California, where many people have two cars: an SUV for the sporty and adventurous side of their lives (going surfing, to the countryside…) and a more urban and elegant model to go to the city. The Activesphere Concept will combine both philosophies.

The designer points out that the concept car will have simple, soft, and restrained shapes, but very muscular. Its sideline will be very aerodynamic, with a rounded profile and a sloping rear window that to some extent will seek to pay homage to the three previous generations of the TT, which has always been a very curvaceous car.

Like the rest of the future releases of the firm with the four rings, it is expected that it will have headlights divided into two modules, with the lower one hidden in an air intake. The Singleframe corporate grille will be blinded, and the bodywork will have protections on the underbody (bumpers, wheel arches, and sills).

How could it be otherwise, the Activesphere Concept will equip an advanced intelligent Quattro all-wheel drive system. It is not clear if it will use the MEB+ platform or the more advanced PPE, which will differ among other things by its 800-volt electrical system. This feature will allow you to charge at 270 kW of power in direct current (5-80% in approximately 22.5 minutes).
