Exterior design and technical data

BMW 2 Series Coupe 2022

The BMW 2 Series Coupé is consistently dynamic and athletic in design. In the pictures, you can see the differences between the normal i220 and the top model M240i. Both versions are young, fresh, and very self-confident. The compact dimensions also ensure high driving dynamics: length 4.54 meters, width 1.84 meters, height 1.39 meters. Overall, the new 2 Series has become longer and wider but has lost its height compared to the previous model.

Of course, the front is striking – it is not equipped with a giant grill. That’s sure to please some BMW fans. The wheel arches are wide and the BMW kidney grille is horizontal with vertical air flaps. Full-LED headlights are included as standard and are designed as round headlights to be reminiscent of the legendary models of the 02 series.

The side view shows a long bonnet and short overhangs. The passenger cell has been set back a bit, and the wheel arches on display are also clearly visible, making the 2 Series look very powerful. Even if it is a coupé, the view of the 2 Series is quite good, because the window areas are relatively large. The gently sloping roofline – also a coupé element – will, however, contribute to a considerable lack of space in the rear.

When you arrive at the rear, you can see horizontally aligned surfaces and darkened rear lights. As you can see with the M240i, there are even larger exhaust pipes here and the rear is even sportier with additional accents. M Performance Parts are of course also optionally available here.

BMW 2 Series Coupe 2022

Overall, the design of the new 2 Series Coupé is modeled very clearly and three-dimensionally. This means that the compact athlete looks a bit sportier than its predecessor.

BMW 2 Series Coupe: interior and trunk

BMW 2 Series Coupe 2022

The interior of the 2 Series Coupé is of course sporty but also comfortable and can therefore be safely located in the premium segment. In the pictures, you can see the driver-oriented cockpit and a modern control panel on the center console. Sportiness also includes putting the driver at the center and making all controls as easy as possible for them to access.

Sports seats and a leather sports steering wheel come as standard. The interior of the BMW M2 shown here shows that the seats with contrasting stitching can be lifted off for even more exclusivity. There are seams in the BMW M colors on the straps.

Sports enthusiasts can take a seat in the rear because two individual seats are characteristic of conveying a sporty driving experience on the rear bench as well.

The trunk of the 2 Series Coupé has a capacity of 390 liters and so that these can also be comfortably loaded, the loading sill has been lowered by 35 millimeters compared to its predecessor.

Engines and driving behavior

BMW 2 Series Coupe 2022

The new 2 Series Coupé is also special because a straight six-cylinder engine is at the forefront of the drive options – this is currently unique for this vehicle class. The 3.0-liter engine in the top model M240i xDrive is the epitome of the maximum sportiness of the 2 series. Here is an output of 374 hp under the hood, which is a whopping 34 hp more than the previous model. The maximum torque is 500 Newton meters and the M240i can go from zero to 100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds.

Anyone who sits in the classic 220i has a new four-cylinder gasoline engine under the bonnet that delivers 184 hp and a maximum of 300 Newton meters of torque. Acceleration from zero to 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds.

The 230i is a good interim solution, but it will not be included in the model range until summer 2022. Here you get 245 hp, which is also made available by a four-cylinder engine.

Would you prefer a diesel? No problem. The 220d is offered as a four-cylinder diesel with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. The 2.0-liter engine has an output of 190 hp and 400 Newton meters of torque. 100 km / h are reached within 6.9 seconds from a standstill.

8-speed Steptronic transmission is offered as standard for all engines; an 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission is built into the M240i, which can also be ordered for the other models as an option.
