The Citroen Berlingo is one of the benchmarks among multi-purpose vehicles. It is a vehicle that stands out for its great volume capacity, modularity, and functionality. It presents practical solutions in all situations, both for families in its Berlingo Multispace version, and professionals in its bodied version such as Berlingo Van.

Citroen Berlingo is produced at the PSA Group factory in Vigo (Spain), and it has been a leader in the car or commercial vehicle market since its first generation, launched on the market in 1996.

The new Citroen Berlingo

The new Citroen Berlingo is updated in 2022 and arrives on the market with a renewed list of attributes. It stands out the improvement in equipment in terms of technology, the latest evolutions in its engines to comply with the rigorous Euro 6 regulations, or a review in its design to give it a modern and current aesthetic.

On the outside, it has a more elaborate-looking front, with a new front bumper equipped with daytime running lights in LED technology and a new grille for the grille. Likewise, new colors are integrated into the already available palette.

The new Berlingo stands out for its design, which combines a robust appearance with the freshness and originality carried by the latest launches of the French manufacturer. If we compare it with its predecessor, the new model brings a renewed silhouette, with a more vertical windshield and a higher and shorter front hood; a detail that reduces the length of the overhang and offers greater interior habitability.

The new front incorporates the characteristic elements of the new brand identity. A bright signature at two heights and fog lights with rounded edges are striking. We tell you more details in this test of the Citroën Berlingo 2022.

Two sizes for your body: Berlingo M and Berlingo XL

The new Citroën Berlingo is available in two sizes: Berlingo M and Berlingo XL. These bodies can have five or seven seats inside. As for the side view, the so-called Airbumps stand out, located in the lower part of the doors and the line of the rear part, which gives a more dynamic air to this versatile vehicle.

The Berlingo Size M is the standard body. It combines compactness and modularity; it is two centimeters taller than the previous generation. These are the dimensions of the Citroen Berlingo M: its bodywork reaches 4.40 meters in length, with a wheelbase of 2.78 m.

The new Berlingo with extended body or Size XL gains 35 centimeters. The Citroen Berlingo XL measures up to 4.75 meters in length, thanks to a 2.97-meter wheelbase.

The new Berlingo inside

More versatile than ever, inside there is the possibility of accommodating five or seven passengers (regardless of the chosen bodywork). In this way, the new Citroën Berlingo 2022 brings a new response to private use or that of professionals, allowing to choose between habitability or trunk volume according to the wishes of the driver.

If something defines the Citroën Berlingo 2022, it is the concept: practical. Whether indoors or outdoors, the new generation has full accessibility. The two very wide and functional sliding side doors stand out, which can be fitted with electric windows as standard (depending on the version).

The new Berlingo also offers ample space for suitcases. A large tailgate gives access to a bulky boot. Its cargo capacity reaches 775 liters in the Berlingo M (one hundred liters more than its predecessor in a five-seater configuration). The boot of the Citroën Berlingo is capable of holding up to 1,050 liters in Size XL (also with a five-seater configuration).

Access to the boot of the Citroën Berlingo is made easier thanks to a rear window that opens independently and a new two-position luggage tray that is also retractable. These are the strengths and weaknesses of the 2022 Citroën Berlingo.

Undoubtedly, very useful elements during loading or unloading and that favor comfort. In this way, the boot can be loaded without any major problem if there is not enough space to open the entire tailgate.

Another important novelty in the new Citroën Berlingo is a more luminous cabin, thanks to the significant glass area of 6.4 m2. This glazed surface is formed by your large windshield, the side windows (now downward on the sliding doors), and the tailgate.

Another key element in this aspect is the so-called Modutop (also available according to versions). It is a large panoramic glass roof, which offers the driver and passengers a complete bath of light.

A complete equipment

The 2022 Citroën Berlingo is updated with a significant level of equipment that makes driving easier. It can equip elements such as rear parking aid, speed regulator and limiter, automatic lighting of the lights, help on slopes, or even the ‘Grip Control’.

This is an anti-slip system that optimizes the drive of the front wheels depending on the type of terrain on which it is circulated. Likewise, the new Citroën Berlingo 2022 incorporates new technologies such as the ‘Active City Brake’, an automatic braking system that allows avoiding impacts at low speed.

The front parking aid completes the rear parking aid, now available. These are two pieces of equipment that are complementary and that facilitate maneuvering in any situation. It can also be optionally equipped with a reversing camera, to make parking maneuvers easier. It also incorporates the latest brand technologies inside.

The new seven-inch touch screen simplifies the dashboard while providing more features, including the navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, or the connection of portable devices.

Citroen Berlingo 2022 Engines

The updating of the Citroën Berlingo also expands the range of available engines, mainly thanks to the BlueHDi engine family in terms of diesel mechanics. In the range, there are BlueHDi engines that develop powers of 75 hp, 100 hp, and 130 hp.

Opinions of the new Berlingo

The new Berlingo adapts perfectly to any type of use. The new generation is built on an architecture that provides you with even more functionality. This new modular platform is based on the EMP2 platform on the front axle.

This new configuration allows you to gain in maneuverability (complemented by the power steering and a smaller turning diameter), more optimized weight, and access to the latest driving aids. Elements that stand out in our test of the Citroën Berlingo.

As for the rear axle, it is an evolution of the platform that its predecessor already equipped. This allows it to offer a higher payload and retain its characteristic width between the wheel arches. It could be said that Citroën engineers have developed this new model for the benefit of performance and its users.

True to the DNA so typical of the brand and what the French house call Advanced Comfort, the new Citroën Berlingo 2022 benefits from all that ‘know-how’ acquired throughout its history.

When it comes to riding dynamics, the new Berlingo tries to filter out or deal with all those blemishes on the tarmac. Always with the maximum of granting all the comfort to the driver and occupants, regardless of the weather conditions.
