Citroen e-C4 and e-C4 X are renewed with more power and range

The Citroen ë-C4 is one of the best-selling electric cars in Europe, occupying second place in the ranking last April, with a total of 274 registered units. The Citroen e-C4 X, for its part, is a completely new model that emerges as a body variant of the first, so they share the chassis and practically all the mechanics. For this reason, both vehicles simultaneously receive a series of improvements that are evident in their power and range.

Available from the Shine trim level, both models offer top-of-the-range mechanics that the company calls “high performance.” Thanks to it, the electric range of the C4 obtains an electric range of up to 420 kilometers, under WLTP cycle approval. This represents an increase of 17% compared to what has been provided up to now in the most accessible levels.

This aforementioned level of range is based on a new advanced chemical battery with 54 kWh capacity, together with the 116 kW (156 CV) electric motor. Alternatively, you can opt for the 50 kWh and 101 kW (136 PS) configuration, resulting in up to 360 kilometers of range.

Technical improvements that lead to a new mechanic

Both models debut the aforementioned high-efficiency synchronous block and 116 kW (156 HP of power). This adds a total of 20 CVs to the aforementioned and presents up to 260 Nm of maximum torque.

The new 54 kWh battery, for its part, adds a total of 4 additional kWh over its range alternative. This is presented as a set of compact cells, with thermal regulation by liquid and heat pumps as standard to carry out fast charges. In total, it is made up of 102 cells and 17 modules. The ternary chemistry of the cathode has also been revised and now obtains a higher proportion of nickel (80%) compared to the other two components: 10% manganese and 10% cobalt (NCM 811).

This results in an improvement in energy density and an increase in range. At the same time, the combination with the aforementioned engine also increases the efficiency of the set, thus presenting an approved consumption value of only 12kWh/100 km. Of course, the company, also points out that these figures are achieved, in part, thanks to the aerodynamic design of the Citroen e-C4 and Citroen e-C4 X, together with “A +” tires and 18-inch wheels.

The reload times are identical to those presented so far. Fast charging reaches a power of up to 100 kW with which both electric cars will be able to recover from 20 to 80% of their capacity after 30 minutes connected to a plug. Additionally, they integrate an onboard charger that is capable of reaching a charging power of 7.4 kW in single-phase and 11 kW in three-phase, although in this case, it is optional.

In summary, the range of Citroen e-C4 and ë-C4 X is made up of four finishes.  Live, Feel, and Feel Pack incorporates the 136 CV motor and 50 kWh capacity battery (360 kilometers of range). With the highest of all, Shine is the one with which you access the new 156 hp engine and the 54 kWh battery that provides a range of 420 kilometers. Availability is immediate and reservations can now be made with these mechanics through the brand’s official dealers, although prices have not yet been specified. The two models are produced at the Villaverde plant in Madrid.
