A model that is called to play a leading role in the offer of the American manufacturer inside and outside its home market. For the first time in many years, Ford will once again sell a compact pickup in the United States.
One of the keys to the new Maverick is its close technical relationship with one of the best-selling SUVs in Europe. And it is that it shares a platform with the Ford Kuga (known in North America as Ford Escape). Therefore, instead of using a traditional ladder or side member frame, this pick-up uses the platform of an SUV that can have front and all-wheel drive.
Design
What are the distinctive features of the new Maverick? On an aesthetic level, we could say that there are no surprises. Even more so if we look back and remember the spy photos and previews. This new pick-up borrows the design language that we already find in one of its older brothers. The Ford F-150 is key. The grille is large and connects directly to striking headlamps.
The side view brings out its compact dimensions. At this point, we must bear in mind the new Hyundai Santa Cruz, another pick-up that is called to be key in a category that is being encouraged with the arrival of new and interesting proposals. The size of the rims will vary depending on the finish or the mechanics equipped. The range consists of XL, XLT and Lariat trim levels. Additionally, the FX4 package is available for all-wheel-drive versions.
Finishing our exterior tour in the rear, we will find some rear lights in a vertical arrangement and with a significant width. The model name is sculpted in large size just below the company insignia. The cargo area is a key part when talking about a pick-up. The new Maverick has a payload capacity of 680 kilograms. And when it comes to towing capacity, it slightly exceeds 900 kg.

Leaving aside the exterior, inside the new Maverick there are also important details to highlight. Ford places particular emphasis on the fact that it is a stylish and spacious cabin ready for both city life and adventure. The more equipped versions bring with them a solvent technological endowment. And, how could it be otherwise, we are facing a digital and connected vehicle.
The Ford Co-Pilot360 package is available and consists of numerous driver assistance systems. It includes assistants such as automatic emergency braking and automatic headlights. It also boasts Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Keeping Assist.
In the instrument cluster, there is a screen of up to 6.5 inches that is combined with the 8.0-inch touchscreen. A key component is a “nerve center” to manage the infotainment system. The SYNC 4 multimedia system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Engine Range
The mechanical offering of the new Maverick is electrified. One of the most interesting versions features a hybrid powertrain. A complete hybrid mechanics (HEV) in which a 2.5-liter gasoline engine is a protagonist. It is accompanied by a small electric motor and all this is managed through an automatic gearbox type CVT. Power is sent to the front axle. Total power reaches 193 hp (191 hp).
There is also a conventional alternative. It is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost petrol engine with 254 hp (250 hp) and 376 Nm of maximum torque. In this case, the block is associated with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and has the front-wheel-drive as standard. Optionally, you can opt for an all-wheel-drive system. Through a driving mode selector, you can choose between Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, and Tow / Haul profiles to adapt the vehicle to different conditions.
When will it arrive in dealerships? The commercial launch of the new Maverick in the United States will take place in the fall of 2021. During the first “Model Year” the First Edition package will be available. This will allow them to celebrate their arrival in the market and encourage sales.
