Genesis G90 2022: New Render & New details

The Hyundai luxury brand Genesis is working on a new version of their luxury G90 model. The Koreans are currently testing the limousine in northern Scandinavia.

The Genesis G90 has been on the Korean market since 2015; after a revision in 2019, the second generation is now due. It is based on the new M3 platform that already carries the GV80 SUV.

It is designed as a rear-wheel-drive platform with optional all-wheel drive and, in addition to conventional motors, can also accommodate pure battery-electric drives. Genesis had recently registered several model names for their electrified vehicles – including the Genesis G90e.

More windows, different handles

The prototype is still heavily camouflaged but has already revealed a few details. In addition to the brand-typical Crest grill, the split headlights can also be seen in the new version. For the first time, the G90 also has two parallel indicator strips in the headlights. The passenger cell is undisguised.

In contrast to its predecessor, the ribbon window now has five window elements instead of just three. Also, the lower window line rises to the rear. The door handles are still hidden under extra-thick camouflage, we suspect that they will be retractable in the future and thus contribute to better aerodynamics. The design of the bonnet has also been changed, the edges of which now protrude far into the fenders.

In the interior, Genesis has installed a new steering wheel and two digital screens, which are combined under one glass, similar to the old S-Class. Behind the steering wheel, a screen with the driving-relevant data provides information; the functions of the infotainment system are shown in the middle.

For the first time, a Genesis model should be able to drive autonomously to level 3 with the help of radar, lidar, and cameras. Air suspension is also on board for the first time.

In terms of drive, the 5.0-liter V8 should continue to be offered on the home market for reasons of prestige. Otherwise, a 3.5 liter V6 is used, which is already working in the GV80. This then makes 375 instead of 365 hp in the G90 – electrification is also being considered. It is still questionable whether Genesis will also offer the new G90 in Europe.

Genesis vigorously modernizes its model range. Now the new generation of the G90 is also due, which even has an electric G90e version at its side. As a further expansion, a super-luxury SUV like the GV90 is in the starting blocks. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when the Genesis brand will arrive in Germany – due to the corona pandemic, plans have probably been delayed.
