With the new 2024, Chevrolet Blazer EV unveiled tonight in California, Chevrolet is offering a new electric SUV with a household name. When Chevrolet decided to bring the Blazer name back to its lineup a few years ago, the move was met with a barrage of criticism. The brand’s purists would have liked a model paying homage to the past, an SUV with a retro style whose prerogative would have been off-road driving.
But it was none of that. One could have predicted then that the grievances would fade, which indeed happened. What we could not have anticipated when the model was launched was that only five years later, an all-electric version would be presented to us, the Chevrolet Blazer EV.
The basis of the new Electric Blazer
Let’s start with the basics, literally, the Ultrium platform that we have been promised for some time now at General Motors (GM). This is starting to appear and will be used for many electrical products, including this Blazer EV. One of its strengths is its modularity, so much so that it allows designers to offer several configurations, whether in terms of gears or autonomy.
Not everything has been revealed concerning the electric motors, their respective capacities, the format of the batteries, etc. Considering that the model will only show up in a year, we guess that changes are always possible. Nevertheless, we were given a good overview of the range with, all the same, some crispy elements to put in your mouth.
For example, we know that an SS version will be offered, making the Chevrolet Blazer EV a true performance electric SUV. At least that’s GM’s promise with an advertised cavalry of 564 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque, enough to smash 0-97 km/h (60 mph) in less than 4 seconds.
Otherwise, we are also promised a version capable of traveling some 515 kilometers in all-electric mode. We are referring here to the rear-wheel-drive RS version. In terms of charging, there is a capacity of 11 kW for level 2 terminals at home, then a maximum capacity of 190 kW with fast DC terminals. In this way, it will be possible to recover 125 kilometers will be possible in 10 minutes, always with the powered Blazer RS.
Where our attention is, because the approach is as interesting as it is particular, is that we will be offered three different drive cogs. Usually, we are used to a two-wheel drive configuration (front or rear), then to all-wheel drive. There, we will be entitled to Blazer EVs with traction, rear-wheel drive, as well as all-wheel drive.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Versions
Where Chevrolet’s plans are clearer is when it comes to defining the lineup. We will find, for the general public, four versions of the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer EV; 1LT, 2LT, RS, and SS. How will each be offered in terms of cogs and autonomous capabilities? That remains to be seen. We know that a rear-wheel-drive RS version will be on offer and that the SS model will see its four wheels cling to the asphalt. Otherwise, you will have to wait to find out everything.
And beyond the general public, note that a version designed for law enforcement, the PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle), will be available from summer 2023. Given the anticipated capabilities of the Blazer, some pursuits may be to be… shorter.
Regarding the style, we will avoid a dissertation on the thing, since it remains very subjective. Note, however, that the model is displayed with a lot of character and that, due to the very nature of the platform, we were able to lower the center of gravity as much as possible, which gives a model with such a slender style. That should translate into some great performances on the road.
Equipment
Not yet having the details on all the endowments, it is of course impossible for the moment to describe everything concerning what each new Chevrolet Blazer EV will offer. What can be confirmed is that a massive 17.7-inch screen will dominate the dashboard and offer the latest connectivity features. The Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system will be available with certain versions and on the RS and SS models, an LED light animation will activate when you approach or move away from the vehicle.
You can see where we are sometimes with this kind of presentation; we put some visually catchy elements to hold the attention. The essential remains to be discovered. Where information that we did not expect was communicated to us, it was within the price range. Often, manufacturers only tell us a few days before the arrival of a model, certainly not a year before its debut.

However, we already know that in Quebec, the Blazer EV will be offered to start at $44,995 (1LT version). The 2LT model will be available for $47,595, the RS version for $51,995, and the SS performance version will cost $65,995.
