Hyundai only officially confirmed a sport version of the Kona in mid-January. Now the manufacturer has released new teaser images of the Hyundai Kona N. We have the latest information and pictures for you.
In addition to the sports models of the i30 series and an announced N model of the i20, the Kona is now pushing ahead and also comes as a sporty Hyundai Kona N. This means that Hyundai would have a total of four sports models in its range, from small cars to SUVs, there is something for everyone.
However, we still have to be a little patient, at least Hyundai has now released the first teaser images on which the Kona N can already be recognized quite well. Until the Hyundai Kona N comes onto the market, you can either look at other sports cars or SUV models with high engines or use the existing N models.
Hyundai Kona N 2022 Prices and the start of sales
Hyundai has not commented on prices or an exact sales start so far, more detailed information should follow in the coming weeks. But the time will come in 2021, and the Hyundai Kona N will celebrate its market launch. What will it cost? The top version of the normal Kona is 33,700 euros, with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. If we assume both for the Kona N, you will surely have to spend at least 35,000 euros.
Engines
A 2-liter turbo engine with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is provided for the Kona N. Somewhat unusual for a sporty car is that no manual transmission is to be offered. Why Hyundai is doing this is not entirely clear – maybe it’s because the Kona is an SUV and customers here might prefer to drive with automatic.
Similar to the already available N models of the i30, the Kona N will also come up with additional, sporty functions. This includes launch control, strong brakes, a sporty engine sound, and much more. How much horsepower the Kona N will get has not yet been announced. However, if you orient yourself towards the engine of the i30 N, at least 280 hp is possible, but perhaps the SUV also gets more power.
Exterior design
What was already suspected in the Erlkönig pictures can now be seen well. The Kona N remains compact but becomes a little wider, which also makes it appear sportier. The front is taken over from the classic Kona, which only recently received a facelift. Only the N logo on the grille shows that you are dealing with the sporty version of the Kona.
Also, you get sporty design elements, such as the red design stripe that runs along the sides and front below the vehicle.
The rear shows large, sporty exhaust pipes on the left and right, the rear lights can now also be seen and you can see that these also correspond to the lighting of the normal Kona. The two-part roof spoiler at the rear should provide more drive and the third rear light is also integrated here, which was previously the case with all N models.
The sporty design is also underlined by a wheel arch trim in the color of the vehicle. There will also be additional red color accents and special aluminum rims for the N model.
In terms of dimensions, the Kona N is unlikely to change much compared to the classic model. The normal Kona is between 4.17 and 4.21 meters long, 1.80 meters wide, and approximately 1.57 meters high.

The current Kona was recently renewed, the Kona N will also receive these new components, plus sporty accents, as they are already known from the i30 N. The trunk should hold as much as that of the classic model. That would be 374 liters with the rear seats open, if you fold them down, 1,156 liters of luggage fit in.
