Hyundai Tucson 2022: Photos, Price & Reviews

SUVs are popular, and so is the Tucson. After the Korean SUV was launched in 2015 and only got a minor facelift a year ago, it is now time for a new edition.

If you are interested in the new Hyundai Tucson, you will have to be patient. If you want, you can get and compare current Hyundai Tucson offers.

The Tucson premiered on the night of September 15, 2020. The market launch will then be at the end of the year, although the plug-in version will not be available until spring 2021. Hyundai has not yet announced prices. But we estimate that the new Hyundai Tucson could cost just under 30,000 euros.

Engines

The completely new design of the Tucson is highlight number one. The second highlight is the engines. Hyundai has positioned itself broadly in terms of engines at Tucson. From mild-hybrid versions to full hybrids and plug-in hybrids, almost all electrified options are included. But there will be no electric version.

Classic drives are also available, so the Tucson is also offered as a diesel and gasoline engine.

Three engines are provided for the mild-hybrid variant. They are 1.6-liter engines with an output of 136 to 180 hp. The engines are coupled either with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or the newly developed, intelligent 6-speed gearshift. It is intelligent because it automatically disengages when it is rolled out.

The full hybrid version consists of a combination of a 44.2 kWh electric motor with an output of 60 hp and a 1.6-liter engine. Since it is only a mild hybrid version, you only have one battery with a capacity of 1.49 kWh.

Hyundai is not yet revealing any details about the more interesting model, the plug-in hybrid. But it will also be based on the 1.6-liter T-GDI engine and have an output of 265 hp.

Exterior design

Tucson has become modern and chic. Its crystalline optics make a difference. The new design makes the Tucson very angular, the pronounced beads and furrows on the side of the SUV reinforce this impression.

Most noticeable, however, is probably the new radiator grille, which is reminiscent of a diamond – but some may be of a reptile. The lighting design is integrated in such a way that it virtually merges with the grille when the lights are not switched on.

The rear is also given a new light signature that looks very self-confident and also a little aggressive. A continuous light strip extends from one side over the trunk to the other rear side. On each side, two light elements protrude into the stern like pointed teeth. One light element is located on each of the trunks.

But the rear has, even more, to offer, because if you look closely, you will miss the rear wiper. This is available but is hidden behind the roof spoiler. The positioning of the Hyundai logo on the rear window is also new – and it’s made of glass, very stylish.

It is also easy to see a sharp bead on the side above the door handles, which gives the Tucson a sporty, aggressive look. Together with the roof spoiler and the very aerodynamic-looking rims, the sporty and masculine overall appearance of the new Tucson is underlined even further.

Like most new models, the Tucson has gotten a bit bigger in every way compared to its predecessor.

Depending on which version you choose, you get more or less trunk volume:

  • Petrol: 620 to 1,799 liters
  • Diesel: 598 to 1,777 liters
  • Mild hybrid gasoline engine: 577 to 1,756 liters
  • Mild hybrid diesel: 546 to 1,725 liters
  • Full hybrid: 616 to 1,795 liters

The classic gasoline engine offers the most trunk space, the mild hybrid diesel comes off worst here. This is probably because the AdBlue tank has to find space and a battery, even if it is small, had to be accommodated.

We come to the interior design of Tucson. The double line on the dashboard, already indicated in the drawing, can now be admired in real splendor. The eye also falls on the 10.25-inch display of the infotainment system, which is embedded in the center console. The instrument display is also 10.25 inches and both screens can be configured.

Overall, the interior looks very tidy, comfortable, and modern. Here you can find everything you need, but nothing unnecessary.

The infotainment system includes a new function. With the help of this, you can create a user account and save various infotainment settings there. For example, Bluetooth devices or the language. There are two main accounts and a guest account available, each of which can be enhanced with a suitable profile picture.

There is of course also an app for locating, unlocking and locking, and viewing the fuel level. The new navigation is cloud-based and should be able to recalculate faster and recognize traffic jams earlier and better.

When it comes to comfort, you don’t have to go without anything at the Tucson. Instead of a two-zone, there is now a three-zone automatic air conditioning. Also new are the Multi-Air slots, which are attached in addition to the normal air inlets. In this mode, the airflow should flow more gently.

The rear sleep mode is also cool, if you cover longer distances with passengers in the back seat, then in this mode the audio system is set so that only the front speakers are addressed. You can then sleep in peace in the back.

In the assistance systems, the lane departure warning system and the collision warning system have been equipped with new functions, adaptive dampers are also included and a new airbag for the front passengers, which opens between the seats, is intended to prevent heads from hitting each other in the event of a collision.
