Kia Carnival 2022: Evolution Without Revolution

Kia is abandoning the Sedona name in its lineup but is not abandoning the family van segment. Although the Kia Carnival is a brand new product, no all-wheel drive or hybridization.

Kia USA unveils the new chapter of its family van with great fanfare. After a not always easy career, the Sedona is leaving us to make way for the Kia Carnival. In this way, North America will no longer go it alone with the name Sedona and join the rest of the world.

Kia Carnival 2022

The Carnival arrives with an angular design, mirroring the latest products in the Kia lineup. Just look at the Sorento, with which it shares its N3 platform, to see strong family resemblances. The grille is required with a concave configuration for more dynamism for the EX, EX +, and SX. It adopts a more singular presentation in the LX and LX +. The optical units incorporate a collection of LEDs for distinctive lighting in the more expensive models. With the thin strip of chrome under the hood, we see a reference to the Seltos.

In profile, rectitude remains relevant. The result is an interesting side decoration behind the sliding door in the shape of a hockey stick. In addition to being in contrasting silver color, this brand offers a three-dimensional texture pleasing to the eye. As for the rear, a single light crosses the tailgate under the window. Very simple, it is in its internal structure that we discover distinctive lighting details.

Kia Carnival 2022 Interior

Kia Carnival 2022 Interior

In the world of family vans, what matters most is the interior space, this living area. With the Carnival, Kia will offer, in the more opulent versions, an environment certainly tinged with luxury and great comfort. On the dashboard, we discover the fashionable strategy at Kia with the integration of a single black band integrating both the instrumentation and the multimedia system. The latter also comes with one or two 12.3-inch monitors. Again depending on the version, there is a collection of accessories such as different user profiles, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and a Bose audio system. More specific to family life, there is the possibility of a silent mode, a loudspeaker mode, and, even, a system for viewing the occupants.

Kia Carnival 2022

Speaking of occupants, the Carnival will be available with 7 or 8 seats on board. The last bench can be completely folded down into the bottom of the trunk. In the middle row in addition to being completely removable, in the case of an 8-seater configuration, it will be possible to use the rear of the central backrest as a table. When the backspace is completely free, it will be possible to put the gold standard of measurement there: a 4×8 sheet! We also note that Kia will offer two colors for the interior trim, black and Martian brown.

Engine

For the moment, if there is a disappointment to be seen there, it would be on the side of the engine. While Toyota and Chrysler offer hybridization or plug-in hybridization, nothing like it at Kia. We find a 3.5-liter V6 whose power remains undetermined. It is estimated that the cavalry should be between 250 and 300 horsepower. Kia confirms the presence of 8-speed automatic transmission. Another disappointment, no possibility of an all-wheel-drive for the moment. Once again, Toyota and Chrysler are marking time by offering it. The good news, the Carnival retains the 3,500-pound towing capacity.

Kia Carnival 2022 Price

As for the price, the base LX version starts at $ 36,405. This represents an increase of $ 2,200 over the 2021 LX. Adding the smart tailgate, power side doors, and heated steering wheel and front seats, we go to the LX + at $ 39,905. Next is the EX which offers a more lifted appearance with 19-inch rims, LED taillights, and artificial leather upholstery. Safety equipment also incorporates intelligent cruise control as well as lane departure, head-on collision, blind-spot collision, and rear cross-traffic assistance.

For the EX, we are talking about $ 43,905. The $ 47,205 EX + adds LED projectors, a 12.3-inch multimedia screen, and monitor instrumentation as well as fog lights. Finally, at the top of the range, it is the SX that puts the package in terms of amenities: two sunroofs, Bose sound system, genuine leather, and reclining captain’s seats in the second row. This version peaks at $ 50,205. The Kia Carnival will arrive in dealerships in spring 2021.
