Lotus launches a new two-seater sports car: the Lotus Emira. Visually, the car should be based on Evija. The front and the sharp lines in particular are reminiscent of Evija’s sporty look. However, the new model should be more practical, more comfortable, and more functional.

With the new model, the British car company Lotus would like to finally enter the global sports car segment and be recognized worldwide as a racing car company. The chances are good. After all, the name is already a challenge. Emira can be translated as “commander” or “leader”. This car should lead Lotus into a profitable future.

Specifications and exterior design

From the outside, the Emira is reminiscent of Evija. The new model is angular but combines these sharp lines with a flowing coupé cab. The lights consist of two inclined LED strips that are already used in the Evija.

The Emira should be a sports car for everyday use. Therefore, the car comes with a large window front that allows a wide all-around view.

The tires are big and stick up to the windows. They have a diameter of 20 inches and were specially designed for the new model. The car comes with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tires as standard; customers can find Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in the Lotus Drivers Pack for an additional charge.

When the Emira has passed by, you can take a look at the back of the car. The taillights are C-shaped and connect to a narrow red brake light at the top. Conspicuous exhaust pipes are waiting at the bottom, right, and left of the license plate.

In terms of material, the company relies on a lightweight aluminum chassis. The external dimensions are compact, the car is 4.4 meters long and 1.2 meters high. Only the 2-meter width is beefy but ensures good road holding – especially when cornering quickly.

The Emira has several intelligent storage options so that something can also be transported on the journey. There are two cup holders and a mobile phone storage compartment in the cockpit. There is also a door compartment, a glove compartment, and a shelf in front of the gear stick. For larger luggage, the car offers 208 liters behind the seats and 151 liters of luggage space.

Lotus puts a special focus on the seats. Drivers: inside should be able to withstand long journeys and comfortably jet down the racetrack. The standard seat has a four-way electric adjustment system, the optional sports seat comes with twelve adjustment options.

Even at night, you have everything in view: the car has ambient, all-around, and map lighting.

The Emira is not only optically state-of-the-art, the technology under the bonnet should also be modern. The car builds on the recently announced new sports car architecture from Lotus and has modern details.

The coupé-like design gives the car a plus in aerodynamics. In addition, the car with an aluminum chassis is attractively light. In its lightest form, it should weigh 1,405 kilograms.

With the Emira, customers can choose between two petrol engines: Either they opt for the 3.5-liter V6 engine from Lotus or the 2.0-liter V4 engine, which was developed together with AMG. The V6 engine is already known from the engine compartment of the Lotus Exige and the Evor. Both engines should be available with manual, automatic, or dual-clutch transmission.

The horsepower should be between 360 and 440 hp. If you press the accelerator pedal hard, you should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in around 4.5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 290 km / h. But not only the positive values ​​are already known, but Lotus is also already specifying the CO2 emissions: They should start below 180 g / km.

Lotus customers have a choice: the chassis and suspension can be adapted to their needs. The “Tour” setting is intended for everyday use, it should offer comfortable driving behavior. Alternatively, customers choose the “Sport” setting. Then the chassis is a little tighter and better prepared for speed rides.

Prices and the start of sales

If you want to become the happy owner of the Emira, you have to wait until spring 2022. Lotus would like to bring the first Lotus Emiras onto the market worldwide during this period. However, the number of pieces will be limited. This “First Edition” comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. From summer 2022, the model will also be available with the 2.0-liter V4 engine from AMG. In terms of price, the Emira should start below 72,000 euros.
