First images of the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

Maserati has revealed a series of images of the prototypes of the new GranCabrio, the convertible version of the recently presented GranTurismo. Although camouflaged, it can be seen that it will maintain the main lines of its closed brother, whose beautiful design has been highly applauded by the public.

Its silhouette will be typical of a vehicle of its type (long hood, passenger compartment displaced on the rear axle, shortened rear…). Both the optical groups in vertical format and the fine horizontal pilots and the oval radiator grille will be common to other brand models. Inside it will mount two screens, a central 12.3-inch screen, and an additional 8.8-inch screen. The digital instrumentation will be 12.2 inches and will be complemented by a projected Head-up Display.

The new model will arrive in 2023 and, in Massimo Capaldi (Maserati’s head of global products), it will be “something special”. As with the GranTurismo, the GranCabrio will have an electric version called Folgore, which is set to become one of the first zero-emission proposals in its class.

Following the GranTurismo Folgore and GranCabrio Folgore, Maserati plans to electrify the rest of its range, from the Grecale and Levante SUVs to the MC20 supercar, not forgetting the Quattroporte saloon. By the end of the decade, the Italian firm will only sell 100% electric models on the European market, a goal shared by the rest of the Stellantis group.

Mechanically, the GranCabrio Folgore will be identical to the GranTurismo Folgore. It will be equipped with three electric motors (one on the front axle and two on the rear), which will produce a combined maximum power of 761 hp (560 kW). Its torque vectoring system will allow you to distribute up to 400 hp to each rear wheel.

Its performance should not vary too much (0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 8.8 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h). The battery pack, located in the central tunnel, will have a capacity of 92.5 gross kWh (83 applicable kWh). Its official autonomy is still a mystery. The use of an 800-volt electrical architecture for its part will allow it to charge at a maximum of 270 kW of power in direct current (same as a Porsche Taycan), recovering 100 km in just 5 minutes.

Due to its approach (high-performance four-seater convertible), it will hardly have rivals at the time of its launch, although in a few years it will have to face off with proposals such as the Polestar 6 or the second-generation Tesla Roadster.
