Maserati Grecale, Brand’s first electric car is presented

Maserati today presented its new access model: the Grecale, a medium SUV (segment D) located one rung below the Levante (segment E). The newcomer is an ambitious bet; Not surprisingly, it will have to stand up to the Porsche Macan, the sportiest and most luxurious model in the category… until now.

Given that its German rival will become a purely electric model in its next-generation, Maserati has not wanted to sit idly by: in addition to two internal combustion engines (a 2.0 four-cylinder mild-hybrid and a 3.0 V6 Biturbo), the SUV will have a 100% electric variant called Folgore. This will be possible thanks to the use of an updated version of the Giorgio platform, already seen in the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio.

Aesthetically, the new Maserati Grecale draws from the lines of the MC20 supercar. With a length of between 4.85 and 4.86 meters depending on the version, it is one of the largest proposals in its category. The headlights in vertical format and the large grille (blinded in the Folgore) give it a very aggressive look.

In addition, the brand has also wanted to pay homage to its past through details such as the side gills, the C-pillar badge, or the boomerang-shaped taillights, inspired by the 3,200 Giugiaro GT. The Folgore features specific badging, aerodynamic turbine-style alloy wheels, and a unique body tone (Copper Rame Folgore).

The battery of the Maserati Grecale Folgore will have a capacity of 105 kWh

The dashboard has up to four screens: the digital instrumentation, two displays in the center console (12.3 and 8.8 inches respectively), and around clock above them. In addition, it launches the MIA multimedia platform, based on Android Automotive OS. Among other things, it integrates the voice assistant Alexa (Amazon) with natural language commands. The electric will add an upholstery made with «Econyl», a new type of recycled nylon that is obtained from nets recovered from the sea.

The truth is that, unlike the thermal versions, Maserati has not revealed all the specifications of the Grecale Folgore. One of the most interesting data is that of the capacity of its battery, which will reach 105 kWh. The electrical architecture will be 400 volts, while the powertrain will deliver up to 800 Nm of torque. This model will hit the market a year after the thermal versions, scheduled for the second half of 2022.
