The current generation of the Mercedes A-Class hit the market in 2018 as an MY2019 and that means that, if we follow the roadmap of the German brand, an update should not be long in the coming. Indeed, it seems that this will be the case since our spies have just sent us some very interesting images starring several slightly camouflaged prototypes that correspond to the different bodies of the German compact, the protagonist of these lines being the three-volume variant and no, no We are talking about the Mercedes CLA, but about the Mercedes A-Class Sedan.
And as a good Mercedes A-Class that it is, this camouflaged prototype that has been hunted by our spies will hide the same “tweaks” as the standard 5-door variant that we also saw rolling with its new update a few months ago. Some changes will come in the form of a new look with redesigned headlights, at least in its internal design, and that will also accompany an updated grille with a new grille style that will introduce a mesh pattern.
In addition, the famous three-pointed star will hide a sensor that will operate the modern driving assistance systems that this renovation will incorporate. The camouflage also hides some bumpers that will also bring a slight redesign to leave a more modern appearance. What will not change is the elegant silhouette of this sedan that has earned it the nickname “Mini Mercedes C-Class “.
Beyond these adjustments, a notable improvement in onboard technology is also expected, which of course includes the latest generation of the MBUX infotainment system that will arrive more advanced and connected than ever. Likewise, the German firm is expected to include new customization options for the passenger compartment, with decorative moldings and renewed upholstery.
Our spies assure us that Mercedes plans to keep intact the range of engines currently available and, perhaps, the only big news comes with the inclusion of a high-performance version that is above the Mercedes-AMG A 35 Sedan photographed red. Of course, the German brand will continue to offer that extra spice thanks to a sports variant that will also debut a series of changes both at the front and at the rear, maintaining its turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters.
It is expected that this will continue to offer 306 horsepower and a maximum torque of 400 Nm, associated with the Mercedes 4Matic drive system. Below this version will be the rest of the conventional diesel and gasoline mechanics, that is, the so-called A 180, A 200, A 180 d, A 200 d, and the plug-in hybrid A 250 e. The transmissions chosen for the model update will not be changed either, as the six-speed manual gearbox and the seven or eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will continue to be present. In addition, both the AMG and the most performance diesel are associated with all-wheel drive.
This new Mercedes A-Class Sedan is expected to land on the market this year, surely shortly after the 5-door A-Class does, with the MY2023 label.
