A few months ago, in April if we are precise, our spies sent us a series of images from northern Europe in which we could see several partially camouflaged prototypes. These corresponded to the updates that Mercedes is already preparing for the smallest of the family and that is that the A-Class will introduce a series of changes sooner rather than later, as expected. Now, a new member has been discovered, this time far from the frigid places of the Arctic Circle.
Minor cosmetic changes
We are not talking about the Mercedes A Class, but about another model that uses the same platform in a format as popular as that of SUVs. Indeed, we are referring to a Mercedes GLA that is already getting ready on the German roads near the brand’s factory in Stuttgart, a place where one of our photographers has managed to capture a white unit with camouflage.
The light that anticipates where the changes in the star’s signature will go. It should be remembered that this car was presented at the end of 2019 and arrived at dealerships in the spring of the following year, so it is time for an update.
Although it is still early for the veil to be removed, the dynamic tests carried out by Germany suggest that the update will not be very deep, something common in the Mercedes range, so that the main changes will affect the aesthetic section, without neglecting other areas such as technological or mechanical. Thus, the smallest SUV in the family will opt for modifications similar to those of the aforementioned Class A, either in a five-door format or in its Sedan body, starting with the front.
As we say, the prototype is only slightly camouflaged, which makes sense for an update. There appears to be a revised front and rear end at both ends, plus a redesigned front grille with a new mesh pattern. It also appears that the center of this, where the Mercedes logo would normally be, will house a sensor for driver assistance systems. The sensor may be integrated with the logo on the updated Mercedes GLA.
Mercedes GLA 2024 Engine
It’s unclear at this stage what, if any, powertrain changes are planned. Currently, the Mercedes GLA has a varied mechanical range that includes diesel and gasoline engines, as well as plug-in hybrid versions, with powers ranging from 136 to 224 hp. The only transmissions available are automatic seven or eight relationships, with the possibility of choosing the brand’s 4Matic system in some variants, such as the most efficient ones.
These will continue to be the so-called Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and 45 S, which are not expected to introduce changes. For this reason, they will continue to offer 306 and 421 horsepower respectively, being quite a claim for those drivers who are looking for strong emotions at the wheel.
It should be noted that there will be no battery-powered variant in the GLA range as the brand has launched the Mercedes EQA, as well as the EQB based on the GLB. The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of next year or early 2024.
