Mercedes Vision EQXX 1,000 real km of range

After months of waiting, Mercedes-Benz has revealed to the world the VISION EQXX concept car, an electric concept car that claims to be the most efficient electric car in the world. According to the signature of the star, this advanced car is capable of exceeding 1,000 real kilometers of autonomy thanks to the consumption of less than 10 kWh / 100 km. This would allow the average European user to charge it only once a month, as well as go from Paris to Berlin on a single charge.

This is possible thanks, among other things, to its very low drag coefficient: just 0.17, which is a significant improvement on the Mercedes-Benz EQS, which with a coefficient of 0.20 ranks as the most aerodynamic production car on the market in the world. the actuality.

The bumpers, the side skirts, the roof drop, the extended “tail”, the retractable diffuser…. Everything has been designed for maximum efficiency. The 20-inch aerodynamic wheels are made of forged magnesium; In addition, they are equipped with low rolling resistance  Bridgestone Turanza Eco tires.

Most interesting of all, the VISION EQXX is not a large saloon, but a compact sedan (only its 2.80-meter wheelbase has been revealed at the moment ); indeed, many of its technical solutions will be carried over to the MMA platform, an architecture that Mercedes-Benz will launch in 2024 to support its future compact (segment C) and midsize (segment D) electric cars.

As with the exterior, the interior of the latest Mercedes-Benz creation is committed to sobriety and minimalism. The materials are sustainable (none of the components are of animal origin): the mats are made of bamboo fiber, the door handles are made from AMsilk’s Biosteel fiber, some fabrics have been created from recycled bottles …

How could it be otherwise, the environment is 100% digital: the main screen has a resolution of 8K, 47.5 inches, and crosses the dashboard from side to side. According to Mercedes-Benz, the infotainment system has some smart functions that mimic the workings of the human brain, helping to improve the user experience.

The main rear frame of the VISION EQXX ( BIONEQXX ) is the largest piece of aluminum ever used by Mercedes-Benz, leading us to believe that the company plans to use gigacastings in its upcoming vehicles. To contain the weight, the doors are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic.

Photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof to feed an LFP (lithium-ferrophosphate) battery, which in turn powers some of the car’s systems (lights, multimedia system, air conditioning…). This system should allow, in ideal conditions, to add up to 25 kilometers of autonomy per day. How could it be otherwise, the air conditioning system has a heat pump.

The electrical system of the Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX operates at more than 900 volts, while the very small battery has a capacity of less than 100 kWh (for example, the EQS achieves a 784 km WLTP range with 107, 8 kWh). Compared to the EQS pack, the VISION EQXX batteries have a 50% lower volume and are 30% lighter (they weigh a total of 495 kg and have an energy density of 400 Wh / l). It’s electric motor produces 204 hp (150 kW). The weight of the vehicle is about 1,750 kg, while the efficiency of the batteries on the wheels is estimated at 95%.
