- MG4 was introduced
- Newly developed platform
- 51 or 64 kWh battery selectable
- Competition model for the ID.3
- Up to 450 km range
- Market launch in Europe planned for late 2022
The MG4 should bring the manufacturer success in the segment of compact, all-electric hatchback models. To be successful in Europe, you need a vehicle like the MG4, that much is certain. The hatchback model is modern. Five doors and a length of 4.29 meters already indicate that it is compact but also comfortable.
The width of 1.84 meters and a height of 1.50 meters are exactly what have proven themselves in the competitive environment.
The slim and sporty proportions could make the MG4 a real alternative to established models like the ID.3. The split rear spoiler and the strongly formed silhouette with hard edges and lines are eye-catchers.
MG4 Electric platform
The MG4 is based on the completely new MSP platform developed by the parent company SAIC, especially for Europe. MG4 Electric is currently completing a 120,000-kilometer endurance test under a wide variety of conditions.
The modular architecture enables many advantages in terms of space utilization, flexibility, and weight savings. Wheelbases between 2.65 and 3.10 meters are not a problem, which should allow different body styles in the future.
Accordingly, the platform is important for MG’s growth strategy in Europe.
MG4 Electric battery and motors
Due to the low vehicle height, very flat batteries can be used. SAIC Motor developed these, with a height of 110 mm they are currently the thinnest in their class. There will initially be two battery capacities to choose from for the MG4. Once 51 kWh and 64 kWh. This means that ranges of between 350 and 450 kilometers are possible.
Other MG4 variants are planned, and there should also be an all-wheel drive. The output of the version with the smaller battery is 125 kW, with the larger one 150 kW is possible. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than eight seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h.
One pack battery system
The innovative battery allows very effective use of space. The cooling system has also been redesigned. Accordingly, the one-pack battery offers several advantages: it can be integrated very well, has a very long service life, and safety protection against thermal runaway.
MG4 Electric Interior
Five people can easily fit inside the MG4. As the picture shows, everything is very tidy and clean. There are only a few physical buttons, the central screen is operated via touch functions.
The two-tone seats with red decorative stitching make the MG4 elegant and sporty at the same time.
MG4 Electric prices and the start of sales
The MG4 is scheduled to be launched in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2022. It is not yet known what price the manufacturer is asking.
