NIO announces ambitious plans for 2023

NIO has just presented its quarterly accounts. Although some figures are not very positive, these do not matter for the Chinese brand. Next year NIO expects to introduce 5 completely new models.

NIO aspires to become one of the main international players in the electricity market. The Chinese brand continues to present figures that support a powerful launch strategy. Currently, its offer for Europe consists of three different models, but the important news is expected for next year. With five different releases scheduled for the first half of 2023, expect a busy year at the company’s offices. If the plans materialize, we could be talking about one of the brands with the largest electric fleet in the world.

Last week NIO presented an exhaustive report on the results obtained during the past quarter. At first glance, the manufacturer managed to close its most successful period in terms of sales. With a total of 31,607 units delivered, they represent a significant increase if we take into account the results of previous periods where a maximum record of 25,768 deliveries was established in three months, more specifically between January to March of this year. The last cycle of the year is expected to be even better considering that supply continues to increase.

Not only did the deliveries leave a positive value in the quarterly report, but NIO also recorded a significant amount of revenue from those sales. Around 1,780 million euros passed into the company’s accounts, 32.6% more than in the third quarter of last year and 26.3% more than in the second quarter of 2022. However, the net balance remains leaving losses of 4,100 million. The great determining factor is the increase in costs that the company has to face, mainly due to the increase in the cost of the raw materials necessary for the manufacture of batteries. 392% more than in the same quarter of last year.

Although many would be nervous about this situation, William Bin Li, founder, and CEO of NIO is very confident for the remainder of the year and the entire course of 2023. And Europe is a fundamental part of his expansion plans. The old continent is now enjoying the first units delivered. With a total range of three models: NIO ET5, NIO EL7, and NIO ET7, new members will be added to dealers next year to continue expanding sales and the segments in which it appears. Five will be the models that will be presented only during the first semester of the course.

NIO ES7

If we take a look at the offer that NIO presents in its native country, we can guess at least three models that will arrive in Europe, three SUVs: NIO ES8, NIO ES6, and NIO EC6, the latter with a quite interesting coupé format. To these, we will have to add two additional units of which we know nothing at the moment. As for the sales format, customers will be able to choose between a monthly subscription program and also a regular purchase format, something that the company had not offered until now, a system that can also be selected for the models that are already present in Europe.

Within this expansion strategy, a greater offer in terms of charging systems is also contemplated. The exchange of batteries is a solution practically exclusive to the Chinese brand. The stations, or battery swap, will be a fundamental part of that strategy. NIO plans to install 1,000 stations by 2025, mostly on major thoroughfares in Europe. With all this, they hope to become one of the most beloved and best-valued brands on the old continent.
