Opel Insignia 2022: What the new gen will be like?

The new Opel Insignia 2022, the third generation of the German saloon, will see the light of day in late 2023. We advance its design with this recreation.

As our colleagues at LatestCarNews.net indicate, the future of the Opel Insignia was linked to a new crossover at the end of 2019, and that only two years had passed since the launch of the second generation. However, in this time things have changed a lot at Opel and, if everything follows the established course, we will meet the new generation of the model in just over two and a half years. This is what we know about the future Opel Insignia 2022.

In Opel, they have thought that the Insignia has a future in the D segment of saloons and that we should not eliminate a model that has been active since 2008. However, it will be necessary to apply some changes to revitalize the sales of a model that, like the rest of sedans, has been strongly hit by the SUV fever that the market has experienced for just over a decade.

Although the Insignia will not be replaced by a crossover, it will coexist with the future SUV that will be positioned immediately above the model range. Thus, although it will live with the enemy at home, there will be room for the arrival of the new Opel Insignia 2022, of which we already know some details and we anticipate its design in the recreation that heads these lines.

Opel Insignia 2022: we anticipate what the new generation will be like

We know that the Insignia 2022 will continue to offer the current Grand Sports format with an oversized tailgate and a sportier roofline that drops to the rear. The format, similar to that of the Peugeot 508 and which is reaping good results in the market, will be complemented by the brand’s new “Vizor” grille, a design that integrates the headlights and that we have already seen in other models such as the Opel Mokka.

For the passenger compartment, Opel engineers will squeeze a little more the “Pure Panel” concept, with a cleaner dashboard and larger screens. It will be based on the latest generation of the PSA Group’s EMP2 platform, which will allow it to grow a few millimeters while increasing the space in the passenger compartment. The Rüsselsheim company intends to position the Insignia 2022 as a true top of the range.

On a mechanical level, the Opel Insignia 2022 will be equipped with 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines, complemented by two plug-in hybrid versions. All engines will be associated with eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, except for the more powerful plug-in hybrid version, which will be four-wheel drive.
