Peugeot 508 2023: Revealed with new design

Peugeot has introduced the new 508 and station wagon version 508 SW. The design has become modern, as have the engines. We tell you what you need to know.

Peugeot unveiled the new 508 and 508 SW. The mid-life facelift brings not only a new look but also new technology. The Peugeot Sport Engineered version has also been revised, and the alternative to the BMW M340i gets a little more power than before.

The new Peugeot 508 will be launched in June this year, with deliveries starting shortly thereafter. The exact pricing has not yet been announced, but we expect it to be more expensive than the current model. The 508 in the standard version will probably cost around 47,000 euros, the station wagon is a bit more expensive.

Exterior design

The Peugeot 508 has always been a great family car, and this facelift brings it up to date for 2023. The most noticeable change can be seen at the front. The grille has been completely revised and now looks much more similar to that of the Peugeot 408. The new headlights are slimmer than before and feature a triple “claw” design.

The changes to the site are less obvious. There are a few new rim designs to choose from, but otherwise, everything has stayed the same.

At the rear, there is a glossy black design panel that extends across the entire rear of the vehicle and into which the LED taillights are integrated. The design of these lights has been slightly changed, with diagonal lines, similar to the Peugeot 308.

Engines and performance

There is a wide choice of engines for the new Peugeot 508 . You have a choice of two plug-in hybrids, a 1.2-liter petrol engine, and a 1.5-liter diesel. There is also the sporty PSE version. Like the old 508 PSE, it features a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor that sends power to all four wheels. Speaking of performance, the new car now has 5 hp more than before and delivers 360 hp.

Both plug-in hybrids are front-wheel drive and use a 1.6-liter petrol engine in combination with an electric motor. The plug-in with 180 hp is new for the 508 with a facelift, but there is also a more powerful version with 225 hp.

Then there’s the 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 130hp, and for those looking for a diesel, there’s also the 1.5-liter 130hp HDi model. There’s no manual gearbox for the new 508, just an eight-speed automatic, or nothing at all.

There’s also a host of driver aids fitted as standard to make the daily commute easier, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, a night vision camera system, and a reversing camera.

When you step into the new Peugeot 508, it looks quite similar to the previous model, but that’s not a bad thing. He still looks very modern. Above the donkey steering wheel, a hallmark of modern Peugeot is a 12.0-inch digital display for the driver. There’s also a 10-inch touchscreen in the center of the vehicle that displays new and more useful voice commands.

There are also some new equipment options available, including Alcantara seats for the GT models, full Nappa leather, and wood inlays on the dashboard. You’ll also find a new paddle shifter in the center console, replacing the old vehicle’s large lever.

The new Peugeot 508 is available as a hatchback with a pitched roof, those looking for more headroom and luggage space can opt for the estate version SW.
