Peugeot E-308 Electric compact and SW unveiled

From thermal engines to hybrid engines, from hybrid to electric at 100%, indeed at 200%. Because Peugeot 308 will be on sale in a full electric format both in the 5-door hatchback edition Peugeot E-308 and in the station wagon version Peugeot E-308 SW. For a European car brand, this is the first time for an e-wagon.

The market entry is still a few months away, in the meantime, from the Lion, here are the first photos and the engine and battery specifications. Specifications mark an upgrade from the rest of the EV fleet of the brand and of the Stellantis Group as a whole.

As can be seen from the first official images, the design of the new Peugeot E-308 and E-308 SW largely mirrors that expressed by the internal combustion range, including the characteristic front. The only distinguishing features are the model logo (with a capital E instead of minuscule), the absence of tailpipes, plus a set of new  18-inch aluminum wheels. The interiors are also identical, except if anything for the graphics of the EV parameters.

Peugeot E-308 Engine

Instead of the well-known 100 kW (136 hp) unit, a new electric motor with  115 kW ( 156 hp ) and 260 Nm of torque is launched on the E-308 and E-308 SW. The 54 kWh battery  51 kWh useful) is also a new generation: new chemical composition (80% Nickel – 10% Manganese – 10% Cobalt), 400 Volt voltage, and degree of autonomy of over 400 km according to the WLTP protocol (l homologation is still in progress).

ECONOMY RUN

Efficiency was a major concern of the engineering team: as a result of the combined efforts in terms of engine, battery, aerodynamics (optimization of the front and underbody), weight optimization ( EMP2 platform ), and reduction of ‘friction ( class A tires ), the average energy consumption should not exceed  12.7 kWh / 100 km, a benchmark among 100% electric vehicles in segment C. To manage consumption, the driver can at his time select your preferred driving mode ( EcoNormal, and sport ), as well as a force – in the special Brake mode – the regenerative deceleration function.

UNDER CHARGE

The onboard three-phase battery charger is standard and has a power of 11 kW, with a socket that accepts all charging modes. From a 100 kW public charging point, the charge will go from 20% to 80% in less than 25 minutes.

Peugeot E-308 Price

Available in the Allure and GT trim levels, new Peugeot E-308 and E-308 SW will arrive in dealerships, in succession, around  mid-2023. They will be on sale online (it is not clear whether it will be possible to place the order even in person, or exclusively from the e-commerce site) and will be accompanied by a whole range of dedicated financial services, as well as relating to recharge functions (also to distance with MyPeugeot app ) and route planning ( Free2Move e-solutions app ). Prices? Not yet known, although it is realistic to expect an entry threshold of over 40,000 euros.
