Peugeot e-308 With 400 kilometers of range

Peugeot has confirmed, through Autocar, some of the technical characteristics of the e-308, the electric compact that it will launch in 2023 to compete against the Renault Megane E-TECH Electric and Volkswagen ID.3. Among other things, it has been announced that the model will be available with both the standard five-door body and the SW station wagon.

Based on the EMP2 multi-energy platform, the Frenchman will integrate its batteries under the seats, because as with the e-208, it has not been designed to house a flat pack that occupies the entire floor. Its boot will have the same capacity as the 308 plug-in hybrids: 361 liters in the hatchback and 548 liters in the SW.

The Peugeot e-308 will be available only as front-wheel drive. Its electric motor will yield 156 hp (115 kW) and 270 Nm. It will weigh 1,600 kg (like the 308 plug-in hybrid); In addition, it has been confirmed that it will have a heat pump for the air conditioning system, which will improve its efficiency in cold climates.

Your 400-volt battery pack with NCM 811 cells will have a capacity of 50 kWh useful and 54 kWh gross; that is, 4 kWh more than the current e-208. One of the strengths of the car will be its efficiency because, with an approved consumption of 12.4 kWh per 100 km, it will be around 400 km WLTP of autonomy. Its maximum charging power will be 100 kW in direct current.

The Peugeot e-308 will rival the Renault Megane E-TECH Electric and Volkswagen ID.3

Therefore, we are not talking about a disruptive car in terms of performance, autonomy, or load, as it will be placed between the Megane E-TECH Electric of 40 kWh (300 km WLTP) and 60 kWh (470 km WLTP) and the Volkswagen ID.3 Pure (348 km WLTP) and Pro (416 km WLTP). Their prices won’t be announced until next year.

Peugeot expects the e-308 to account for a significant percentage of total 308 sales. The new model will go into production in July 2023, while deliveries will begin shortly thereafter. Therefore, its commercial launch will be much faster than expected, as it was initially thought that Peugeot would prioritize the e-3008, also planned for next year.

The e-308 will also arrive accompanied by two brothers, the DS 4 E-TENSE and Opel Astra-e. From a technical point of view, the three compacts are expected to be identical, differing only by their exterior and interior design, their tuning, and their equipment (the DS will be a step above in terms of perceived quality, as it will be directed to the premium sector).
