Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS: First Look

There are manufacturers like Porsche that are non-conformist by nature. They always seek excellence and, in this case, maximum sportiness in their cars. It is difficult to improve further in this regard due to emissions regulations or current trends, but there is still hope to see products like the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It is the top-of-the-range version of the small German coupe, which has several very outstanding benefits.

It is enough to see this new specimen to perceive that it is something very serious. The aesthetics are subject to aerodynamics, so it loses the rear windows that we see in other 718 Caymans and instead gains air intakes that improve airflow, supporting the front intakes. Highlights are the optimized bass panels connected to the rear diffuser or multi-setting front splitter to generate up to 25% more load in Performance mode. A new fixed rear wing similar to that of the Porsche 911 GT3 is also added.

Although probably the most interesting of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is its atmospheric boxer mechanics of six cylinders and 4.0 liters, also derived from the 911 GT3. Like the rest of the RS, it can only be chosen with the PDK seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Although it repeats the Cayman GT4 scheme, the power rises by 80 hp, leaving a total of 500 hp and 450 Nm of torque for this example. This allows it to have very outstanding benefits.

We are talking about a sports car capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds and achieving a maximum speed of 315 km / h. Part of the fault is also its chassis and its lightness. Thanks to upgrades such as the CFRP bonnet and fins, lightweight glass rear window, or cloth door handles; it stays at a weight of just 1,415 kg, which is 35 kg less than the Cayman GT4. In this way, a weight/power ratio of 2.83 kg / CV is achieved.

It is striking that it achieved a time of 7: 04.511 minutes at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, reducing the time of the non-RS version by 23.6 seconds. It achieves this with the optional Weissach package, which includes several carbon elements, exhaust, and titanium roll cage or 20-inch forged magnesium wheels instead of the forged aluminum that come standard. Buyers of this car will also be able to opt for the Chronograph 718 Cayman GT4 RS, a watch to match the vehicle.
