Renault Austral. This is what the new mid-size SUV car that the Renault brand will manufacture in Spain will be called, specifically at the Palencia plant. The signature of the rhombus has confirmed it today through a statement.
This new Renault Austral, in addition, will be the replacement for the Renault Kadjar, the SUV that is currently marketed within the compact SUV segment. T his new Renault Austral will be presented in spring 2022 and will hit the market a little later.
This new Renault Austral is also one of the cars assigned by Renault to the Palencia plant, following the announcement of the 2021-2024 Industrial Plan announced by the Renault Group last March, through the new president Luca de Piss.
In addition, this new Renault Austral SUV will produce three derivative cars. The first is this mid-size SUV, with 4.51 meters and that replaces the Kadjar.
But later two new variants will come. One of them will be a seven-seater version and the second body will be a coupe-type SUV. These three cars will be manufactured in Palencia and it is expected that they will all be presented in 2022, although the full range could arrive a little later (initially it was said that it would extend until 2024).
With the arrival of the Renault Austral, the signature of the diamond will fill the gap of the Renault Mégane, which will be discontinued shortly. The reason is that the new Renault Mégane, which is already 100% electric, stops to be assembled in the French pole of electric vehicles generated by Renault.
In this way, the Palencia factory, with the new Austral, confirms its commitment to electrified versions (hybrids and plug-ins) although it will not have a 100% electric version.
Once one of the five unknowns that Renault had pending had been cleared (it would be necessary to know the names of the 7-seater version and coupe based on the Renault Austral); We also have to know which are the two new models assigned to Valladolid, the second plant of the Renault group in Spain (there is a third plant, which is Seville, which will become the car reconditioning plant).
In this sense, a new SUV-B (urban SUV) and a B plus (urban crossover type) are expected for Valladolid. Of these, it was initially commented that one of them could be a Mitsubishi, following the decision of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance to manufacture cars in Europe. The Renault Captur is already manufactured at this plant and the production of this second generation Captur is guaranteed until approximately 2027.
