Yes, Renault will launch the second generation of its compact SUV in 2021, but it will not finally be called Kadjar. We tell you the new plans of the brand.
So far we have called it Kadjar II, however, now we must know it for now only with the internal HHN code. This will be the new compact SUV that Renault will launch in 2021, a model that follows its planned development plan but which, according to the prestigious French media L’Argus, will no longer be called Kadjar, but will adopt a new name that has not yet been has transcended.
The decision has been taken directly by the new CEO of Renault, Luca de Meo. The head of the brand hopes that the new SUV will lead the brand’s strategy in the coming months and, for this, he does not want to link the model again to a name that has not reaped, far from it, a good commercial result in his first generation.
Clearly surpassed by the great leaders Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson, but above all by its great rival, the also French Peugeot 3008 (if in all of 2020 the Kadjar sold in France less than 9,000 units for the more than 45,000 of the 3008, in Spain in this 2021 the difference is also from 12,000 to 4,173 in favor of the Peugeot), it is evident that the second generation of the SUV will try to mark new paths.
RENAULT KADJAR REPLACEMENT WILL BE BASED ON NISSAN QASHQAI
On sale possibly already during the next summer of 2021, the new SUV (whose first illustration you can see in this article thanks to Kolesa.ru ) will once again be based on the new Nissan Qashqai, with which it will share both the architecture and the majority of engines and components. Renault, yes, wants to distance him more this time at the level of design and positioning, so as not to try to compete for face to face against a rival that surpasses him from birth. In this article, you can reread everything we know about the new SUV.
The strategy that Renault will therefore follow with the Kadjar is the same that is already used with the Laguna, which was replaced by a completely new model such as the Talisman. But this is not going to be the last modification in the French brand’s strategy. And, as L’Argus also reports, e l Koleos should not renew its name either, also due to its commercial failure.
GOODBYE ALSO TO THE RENAULT KOLEOS AND THE NEW SCÉNIC SUV
However, what is not so clear is whether it will have a substitution or not. And it is that the new compact SUV that will arrive without the name of Kadjar, it also seems that it will offer Coupé and elongated 7-seater variants, being able to replace the Koleos in practice. Another option is that the Espace, which already mutated in its last generation to a more SUV appearance, also stays with that same gap that the Koleos would leave.
Luca de Meo’s desire for total renewal will also have another great protagonist in the coming years. And it is that already for autumn of 2023, the brand is projecting at the same time the launch of a new electric SUV, which will be positioned slightly above the Mégane E-Tech Electric and which, possibly, will be called Scenic E-Tech Electric, thus replacing a minivan concept that will die on the brand.
At the moment, the SUV substitute for the new Renault Scénic is known by the internal name of HCB. This model will be followed, as we have already advanced, by an SUV variant of the new replacement for the Kadjar, which is not yet known, yes, if it will have the same name as the new model or will bet on being unmarked with a new name, as it has happened with the last Arkana.
