The Renault Kiger is the new compact SUV designed in India and aimed primarily at that market. In a second phase, it will also be marketed internationally. Affordable and equipped with five seats, this robust SUV of fewer than 4 meters completes Renault’s offering in India, along with Kwid, Duster, and Triber.
The Kiger is inspired by the features of the Kiger show-car, which was unveiled at the end of 2020. The high ground clearance (205 mm) and the roof bars that enhance the vehicle completes its vocation as a rugged-looking SUV.
On the top finish, the 16-inch alloy wheels on the Kiger are black with a diamond finish for a slightly more elegant look. The wheel arch protections that surround them form large black arches that add strength and character to the bodywork. The long-wheelbase (2,500 mm) allows the wheels to be brought to all four corners of the vehicle for better stability on any type of road. This also contributes to interior space, comfort in each row, and a boot capacity unheard of in the segment.
The upper band formed by the grille and the LED daytime running lights positioned at the ends elevates the look of the vehicle. The indicators are integrated into the daytime running lights. The distinctive lower part breaks the bumper into two areas, with long corners incorporating the Pure Vision LED the main lighting. The latter consists of two blocks of three 100% LED headlights with a chrome reflector background.
The rear part is illuminated by LED lights with a new pattern. These light blocks on a glossy black background, truly modern and distinctive in the segment, draw Kiger’s double-C rear light signature.
Kiger offers 6 body colors: Glacier White, Slate Gray, Moonlight Gray, Mahogany Brown, Caspian Blue, and Desire Red. All body colors have their two-color variant whatever the trim level, except Wish Red, exclusively available in the top trim.
According to the brand, the feeling of space onboard is very remarkable. At the front, Kiger has the best seat pitch in the segment (710mm). At the rear, Kiger offers the best legroom (222mm) and elbow room (1,431mm) in the segment. The seat height provides a commanding driving position that emphasizes driving comfort.
In terms of cargo capacity, the Kiger is the segment leader in boot volume ( 405 liters, and up to 879 liters with lowered seat ). Kiger is also in pole position for boot lengths in the SUV segment under four meters, with a standard capacity of 626 mm and a maximum load length of 1565 mm (after the second-row bench is folded down ).
In terms of on-board storage, the Kiger makes multiple and ingenious spaces available to its passengers, reaching a total onboard capacity of 29 liters, including four 1-liter bottle holders and two cup holders The central armrest hides a storage space with a capacity of 7.5 liters, while the glove compartment has a volume of 10.5 liters. In addition to the 4.4-liter storage space above the glove compartment, Kiger has smart storage areas with high-volume multi-level accessibility and organized with the user in mind.
Renault Kiger Interior
A large floating 8-inch (20.3 cm) touchscreen protrudes from the tall, wide center console. This is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, to connect a smartphone and easily enjoy specific applications for driving and multimedia. In the upper finish, this smartphone connectivity can be wireless thanks to a Wi-Fi connection. Five shortcuts can be selected for faster access to applications and functions. In addition to voice recognition, the system has Bluetooth connectivity that allows up to 5 devices to be coupled, a USB fast-charging socket, and an integrated MP4 video reader.
In the top finish, Kiger has MULTI-SENSE driving modes, which allow the driver to choose between different driving modes. Engine mapping, gear selection (for automatic transmissions), steering column sensitivity, and digital meter display, are reconfigured when changing modes and provide an optimal driving experience.
The Kiger is equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine that develops an output of 100 hp, with a torque of 160 Nm (available from 3,200 rpm). This 100 hp 1.0-liter turbo engine is associated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. An X-TRONIC continuous drive will be available shortly after the commercial launch.
Depending on the market, the Renault Kiger will have another 1.0-liter naturally aspirated ENERGY engine with 72 hp and 96 Nm associated with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed EASY-R robotized gearbox.
