Rolls-Royce Specter Luxury Electric Coupe Spotted

Rolls-Royce is taking the first step towards electric mobility. The Rolls-Royce Specter will be the manufacturer’s first electric car, which is scheduled to go on sale at the end of 2023. We have all the information for you.

Soon, Rolls-Royce will launch its first electric car. It will be called the Specter and will be a super-luxe two-door coupe that is expected to be launched before the end of 2023.

  • The first Rolls-Royce electric car
  • Will be named Rolls-Royce Spectre
  • Based on the Phantom, Ghost, and Cullinan substructures
  • First deliveries at the end of 2023
  • All Vehicles will be electric in 2030.

A prototype of the upcoming Rolls-Royce Specter electric car has been spotted publicly tested. It is the brand’s first electric car and is expected to go on sale before 2023. This car is the first step on the luxury manufacturer’s journey to becoming fully electric by 2030.

This new model will likely be even more luxurious than the Mercedes EQS, and will almost certainly cost more too – although Rolls-Royce has yet to announce any specific details on the vehicle’s performance or price.

Design

The new Rolls-Royce Specter hasn’t been unveiled yet, but this thinly camouflaged prototype shows just how similar it looks to today’s Rolls-Royce Wraith coupe.

Although the prototype is clad in black camouflage with bright yellow lettering in these photos, you can spot the sloping roofline, long bonnet, and rear-hinged doors – similar to Rolls-Royce’s current ultra-luxurious two-door offering.

Unlike this car – which shares some components with an older version of the BMW 7 Series – Rolls-Royce will use parts from the Phantom and Ghost sedans and giant Cullinan SUV to build the new Specter.

Engines and battery

Instead of the bespoke V12 petrol engine found in other Rolls-Royce models, the new Specter is powered by electric motors. When you think about it, that seems more in line with Rolls-Royce’s mission to build the most sophisticated and relaxed cars on the market.

Rolls-Royce has yet to confirm which batteries the Specter will use, but it’s safe to assume that the new Specter will aim to surpass the Mercedes EQS’s range of 770 kilometers. If so, it probably needs an even larger battery than this car’s 108kWh unit.

Rolls-Royce also keeps a low profile about the electric motors of the new Specter. Rolls-Royce could choose to develop its engines or use those of the parent company BMW. That remains to be seen.

BMW’s most powerful production electric car to date is the iX M60 – a two-engine SUV with 610 hp. With this setup, the Specter would have just under 90 hp more than the EQS with 523 hp.

However, BMW has also tested a 720 hp electric prototype that works with three electric motors. These could be used in the new electric BMW i7, but could also be used in the new Rolls-Royce Spectre.

Rolls-Royce Specter prices and the start of sales

Regardless of which engine and battery combination Rolls-Royce chooses, you can be sure that the new Specter will be one of the most expensive electric cars on the market. Rolls-Royce has confirmed that the first customers should receive their vehicles in the final months of 2023.
