Skoda Slavia: New images and new details

The VW Group would like to position itself more broadly on the subcontinent with the “India 2.0” strategy, with the Skoda Slavia already presented the second model of the India offensive. The Kushaq city SUV has been available on the Indian market since the middle of the year, and the small liftback sedan in Fabia format is now set to expand the Czech market share among the notchback limos popular in India. The name is a nod to the 125-year history of the brand. Slavia was also the name of the brand’s first vehicles, back in 1896 it was bicycles.

Skoda would like to build a bridge to Europe. Under the sheet metal of the limousine with historical names is standard technology from Volkswagen. Like the Kushaq city SUV, the Slavia is based on the Group’s modular India transverse matrix, on which two VWs for India will soon be presented. So far, Skoda has not given any precise information about the drives of the sedan, however, it is also worth taking a look at the Kushaq here.

The SUV draws its power from two TSI engines with 115 and 150 hp, both available with manual or automatic transmission. It is conceivable that the Slavia will also receive the two engines. Diesel no longer sells well on the subcontinent, and the targeted price is likely to stand in the way of electrification. Here, too, we consult the Kushaq: The city SUV starts in India at just under 12,000 euros (as of October 2021), the Skoda Slavia (2021) should be based on that.

Skoda Slavia

So far, the Skoda Slavia has been shown with a lot of camouflage camouflage film before the official presentation in 2021. Underneath: a typical Skoda. On the front there is a large lamellar grill with a central recess for the logo, the headlights taper towards the center, similar to the new Fabia that was launched in 2021.

And so the visually pleasing proportioned sedan below the Octavia looks as if it were a notchback Fabia. Since the Fabia as a notchback did not sell well in (Western) Europe in the past and the Rapid with liftback also flopped here, a German start for the Skoda Slavia (2021) is as good as impossible – even if the smart sedan comes at a tempting price.
