Suzuki Jimny 2022: SpyShot on test drive

The popular Suzuki Jimny was spotted on test drives as a long-wheelbase version. We have the latest SpyShot and current information for you.

For a long time now , the popular Suzuki Jimny has only been available as a commercial vehicle. But now a version with a long wheelbase (LWB = long-wheelbase) of the Suzuki Jimny has been spotted.

A long version of the Suzuki Jimny seems to be within reach, because a prototype of the iconic 4 × 4 vehicle was spotted during test drives. Due to strict emissions regulations, it could be sold only as a commercial vehicle, like the standard vehicle now, and it is expected to start at around 21,000 euros.

Exterior design

These prototypes of the Suzuki Jimny long-wheelbase suggest that not much has changed visually compared to the standard version of the compact 4 × 4.

The front section retains the slotted grille and retro face, while the rear still features low-slung brake lights and a spare wheel mounted on the side-opening tailgate.

The real change is the lengthened wheelbase, which results in a longer body. It doesn’t change much in terms of appearance, but there seems to be a longer rear window and an elongated roof. There’s a chance this car could be an early prototySince the Suzuki Jimny is only available as a commercial vehicle due to stricter emissions regulations in Europe, the long wheelbase version will be just that. That means you will have two seats in the front and a large cargo space in the back. It remains to be seen whether this will be designed as a closed trunk or as an open loading area …

The longer wheelbase also means more space in the rear of this Jimny, so it’s probably more suitable as a regular work vehicle than the standard vehicle.

However, an infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as a built-in satellite navigation system should be included. The amenities beyond that are limited to air conditioning and a small display in the dials and instruments.

Suzuki Jimny 2022 Interior

The long wheelbase Suzuki Jimny has the same 1.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine as the standard model. It develops 102 hp and a torque of 130 Nm, which is transmitted to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

Chances are, of course, that Suzuki could use this as an opportunity to introduce a more modern engine, possibly one of the mild-hybrid 1.0-liter engines found in the Swift.

Suzuki Jimny 2022 Prices

There is still no official comment on the Suzuki Jimny LWB, but it is possible that the extended version of the charming compact 4×4 could be unveiled in 2021. If so, sales would likely start in 2022.

The prices will be a bit higher than the standard vehicle, so be prepared to spend around 21,000 euros.
