Skoda confirms it will sell electric cars for 20,000 euros

The new head of Skoda, Klaus Zellmer, until now responsible for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen, has come to his position with a clear objective of offering competitive products from all points of view. And this includes betting on SUVs, but without forgetting the compact and volume models that have been the company’s base in recent decades.

During an interview with the German portal Auto Motor und Sport, Mr. Zellmer indicated that the objective is to make the Czech brand more emotional, and in addition to developing its offer in the SUV segment, they are also working on bringing to the market a model smallest and most economical electric

According to Mr. Zellmer: “ Skoda is an honest and authentic brand with a strong tradition, which we now want to emphasize even more. We will become more emotional and strive for strong differentiation in design »

While other manufacturers tend to discontinue smaller series or not develop them further, Skoda wants to remain strong in the compact segment. And it is not for less since, even though some brands have lost sight of the objective, reality shows that the sales leaders in the electric car sector in Europe are the compact ones. Renault ZOE, FIAT 500e, Dacia Spring…etc.

The new head of Skoda has indicated that in the short term they will not launch any compact proposal due to issues such as the lack of components that force them to focus on higher segments and with a greater margin. But once this crisis of components is overcome, according to Zellmer, the objective will be to be able to offer an electric car with a price of around 20,000 euros.

Skoda Enyaq iV

« It is important for us to remain true to the character of the brand and offer vehicles with an excellent price-performance ratio, even in the entry-level segment. That is why, of course, we will be present there a little later. »

Skoda will not present its compact proposal for at least three years. This will share the new MEB Entry platform with Volkswagen and Cupra, but be one step below in terms of price. And it is that a few weeks ago from Volkswagen it has been indicated that its 20 thousand euros may have to rise to 25 thousand euros, something that Cupra will surely follow.

In the case of Skoda, the latest rumors indicate that the design will be that of a compact SUV about 4.10 meters long and that it will come under the name Elroq. An SUV equipped with a lithium-ferrophosphate battery in its access version, and another NMC in the most equipped.

A small urban and compact SUV that will have a very ambitious price target, which will also be manufactured in Navarra together with the Volkswagen ID.2, with sales that should start between 2025 and 2026.
