The next generation Maserati Levante will be a 100% electric

Maserati CEO Davide Grasso has announced the start of electric development for the Levante, the company’s largest SUV. Although the commercial model will not arrive until 2026, with mechanics inspired by the Quattroporte Folgore and the GranTurismo Folgore.

Maserati will carry out a complete renewal of its range in the coming years. This will derive, in parallel, from a transformation of its catalog from mechanical to 100% electrical. Such is the case of the current Maserati Levante, the sports SUV that will soon adopt the surname of ‘Folgore’, thus announcing its transformation into a zero-emission car.

With the presentation a few months ago of the Maserati Grecale Folgore, the Italian firm gave the go-ahead for electric cars. This marked the beginning of a new era for the brand, in which, for the first time, electrical and thermal mechanics will coexist on the different models. Later, they also announced the arrival of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, the first details of the Maserati MC20 Folgore or the future Maserati Quattroporte Folgore. The latter will look for more luxury and refinement on the saloon of representation.

All these movements unseat a model: the Maserati Levante. However, new information published by Autocar would have finally clarified the fate of the company’s largest SUV.

It has been the CEO of Maserati himself, Davide Grasso, who has hinted at the importance of marketing a fully electric Maserati Levante, which will benefit from the synergies made in the automobile group to which it belongs (Stellantis). “We’re working full steam ahead on that program and it’s something that I’m excited about because we see the opportunity that we have as part of a very large group, making innovations one of the priorities. So I’m very excited about the way that program is starting to take shape,” said the top manager.

However, the commercial arrival of the electric SUV would not take place for several years; in 2026, specifically. The Maserati Levante will adopt a series of technical specifications that will previously be released by the electric Maserati Quattroporte, such as new high-density battery technology or new, more efficient, and powerful electric motors.

Likewise, although the specific technical data remains secret, it is expected that the Maserati Levante Folgore will present a permanent four-wheel drive. The catalog of mechanical options will be quite complete since it will present more affordable access variants and other more performance and sporty ones. The head of the list will be represented by an architecture of three electric motors of up to 745 CV, the same that has already been announced for the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore.

Among the models that the future Maserati Levante Folgore will face will be the Lotus Eletre or the electric Porsche Cayenne, as the main adversaries. However, it will also cope with the sportier versions of the BMW iX or the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. At the moment, the starting price is completely unknown.
