After numerous leaks, Toyota has finally presented its new electric model, the bZ3. This compact sedan (segment C) equivalent to the Corolla will be produced by the joint venture between the Japanese firm and FAW for the Chinese market. At the moment there is no information regarding his possible arrival in Europe.
The Toyota bZ3 measures 4,725 millimeters long, 1,835 millimeters wide, and 1,475 millimeters high, with a wheelbase of 2,880 millimeters. Its elaborate aerodynamics allows it to advertise a coefficient of just 0.218, a truly outstanding figure that will guarantee high efficiency, thereby reducing its consumption and improving its range.
The vehicle sits on the e-TNGA modular platform, the same one found in the bZ4X. Its BYD-origin batteries, of unknown capacity, are of the LFP (lithium iron phosphate) type, an affordable chemical that offers long useful life and high safety rates. Toyota claims that after ten years, the pack will retain 90% of its capacity.
The range is greater than 600 km CLTC. Although Toyota has not confirmed it, previous leaks indicate that it is a rear-wheel drive car and that it will be available with two power levels: 184 hp (135 kW) and 245 hp (180 kW). The top speed in both cases will be electronically limited to a maximum of 160 km/h.
The Toyota bZ3 will be sold in China
The aesthetic language used in the bZ3 is the same that the bZ4X already sports. The hammerhead-shaped headlights are linked by a light strip, the same device used on the taillights. There are various concessions to aerodynamics: recessed door handles, wheel design… As an option, the possibility of painting the bodywork in two tones will be offered.
The interior of the Toyota bZ3 integrates the new Digital Island system. The infotainment system screen adopts a vertical format, while the instrumentation is not consulted through the steering wheel rim, but above it, following a layout similar to that of the i-Cockpit that Peugeot has been using for a decade.
Climate controls are integrated into the touch screen. There is no lack of interesting equipment such as voice controls, a wireless charger for smartphones, ambient lighting, and USB connections both front and rear… Second-row passengers will enjoy considerable legroom, air vents, and a completely flat floor.
