Toyota bZ4X 2022: First Look & All Details

Toyota presented the bZ4X Concept at the Shanghai Motorshow 2021. The manufacturer recently released a teaser picture. The electric SUV will be the first model in the bZ series and will attract attention with its angular design and a surprise in the interior. We have pictures and information for you.

The study with the complicated-sounding name bZ4X is the first Toyota e-car to be built on the new e-TNGA electric platform. Even if it looks very special visually, the study could for the most part also be transferred to the production model.

The Shanghai Motorshow this year is all about electric mobility, and Toyota does not need to be asked twice. For more details on the bZ4X concept, read on.

The bZ series is given a very unique design to stand out from the other models as a pure electric series. Toyota is likely planning a sub-brand for e-models, as more bZ versions are expected to hit the market by 2025.

Prices and the start of sales

Much is not yet known, but the market launch of the bZ4X model is scheduled for mid-2022. The price Toyota intends to announce for the electric SUV has not yet been communicated.

Exterior design

Angular, angular, robust, and self-confident – these are probably the words that best describe the bZ4X concept. Everywhere corners and edges are built-in, there is nothing to be seen of playful curves. Toyota is taking a different path with the electric SUV, although the new models of the RAV4 and Yaris have already gone in similarly angular directions.

Another unique selling point of the bZ4X is the paneling on the wheel arches that wrap around the front. There is no information on technical details yet, but the electric SUV will probably only be offered with an all-wheel drive. What would also be very innovative: a solar roof. The bZ4X could likely be equipped with it.

The view into the interior falls mainly on the steering wheel. Do you know that from somewhere? We also! Toyota could have copied a bit from Tesla, because the special Lenrad design, which is more reminiscent of an airplane control than a car steering wheel, can also be found in the concept images for the new version of the Model S. Now the new electric Toyota is also to be controlled like an airplane – it remains to be seen whether this detail will be incorporated into the production model.

Also, one looks at a somewhat strange-looking structure behind the steering wheel, which immediately draws one’s gaze to the instrument display. This is rather small, but the center-mounted touchscreen in landscape format is okay in terms of size. The center console is mounted quite high, there is a rotary wheel with which you can activate the various driving modes.
