Volvo EX30 hunted on test drive for the first time

Volvo recently confirmed the launch of a smaller electric SUV than the current XC40 Recharge. Its new access proposal, which will receive the trade name EX30, will be presented this year. Although there are still a few months to go before its official launch, today we bring you the first spy photos of this interesting model.

Even though the unit in the images is covered in camouflage, it’s easy to guess its most prominent features under the vinyl. For starters, it will have a more muscular clamshell bonnet and wheel arches than the XC40 Recharge, giving it a more imposing look even with its smaller dimensions.

The door handles will be retractable, while the wheels will have an aerodynamic design. The pilots for their part will wear a design similar to that of the EX90, with a vertical section framing the rear window and a second C-shaped module that will “bite” the tailgate. It is expected to measure approximately 4.30 meters long.

In the passenger compartment, the use of mixed wool and synthetic leather upholstery should be highlighted. The gear selector lever is located on the steering column, which frees up space in the center console, which is separated from the dashboard. The vertical format touch screen is not integrated into the dashboard, as is already the case in the Polestar 2.

The Volvo EX30 will be the brother of the smart #1

The Volvo EX30 will be closely related to smart #1 (remember that Geely, Volvo’s parent company, has also controlled 50% of smart since 2019), with which it will share the use of the SEA-E (SEA Entry) platform. Like his cousin, our protagonist will be made in China.

Everything indicates that initially, it will be available with a single rear-wheel drive version, which will combine a 272 hp (200 kW) motor with a 66 kWh capacity battery pack. This will allow you to certify about 440 km WLTP of range. As for the load, it should reach a maximum of 150 kW in direct current (10-80% in 30 minutes).

Later a variant with two engines, all-wheel drive, and a combined power of 428 hp (315 kW) could be added. In terms of technology, it should be noted the inclusion of an infotainment system based on the Android Automotive OS platform from Alphabet (Google). Its main rivals will be the DS 3 E-TENSE and MINI Aceman.
