VW Taigo Prices and the start of sales

The new VW Taigo has now been presented and should be on the market as early as the end of 2021. What it will cost is still unclear. The VW T-Cross starts at 19,300 euros, we think that the base price of the Taigo should also be around 20,000 euros.

VW Taigo Technical data and exterior design

The Taigo comes across as powerful, the most noticeable certainly being the coupé-like silhouette, through which the C-pillar is strongly inclined forwards. In the small car segment, the Taigo is unique here. If you look at the taigo from the side, you can see sharp lines that are very precisely guided. The overhang has been lengthened towards the rear to make the vehicle more functional.

A look at the rear shows narrow and two-part LED taillights.

Overall, the Taigo makes a robust and modern impression. Due to its compact dimensions, the Taigo is sure to like to do its laps in the city. With its compact dimensions, which correspond to a length of 4.27 meters, a height of 1.49 meters, and a width of 1.76 meters, it should have no problem getting a parking space. The wheelbase is 2.57 meters, which is good for this vehicle category and gives passengers a lot of comforts inside.

The crossover-typical raised seating position provides a good overview, which should please both young customers as well as modern and young-at-heart older people in the Taigo.

With the Taigo, VW has succeeded in creating a visually independent model that has all external lighting using LED technology. At the rear, there is a continuous strip of light that makes the Taigo appear a little wider.

Engines

At the market launch there will only be gasoline engines. The efficient TSI engines from VW are equipped with three or four cylinders. The Taigo has a front-wheel drive and a manual transmission with five or six gears as standard.

The 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter TSI engines produce between 95 and 150 hp and are said to be extremely economical. It is not yet clear whether the Taigo will later be offered with other engine versions.

The smallest engine is the 1.0-liter TSI with 95 hp. The top speed is 183 km / h, a maximum trailer load of 1,100 kilograms (braked) is also possible. The 1.0-liter TSI in the 110 hp version offers a bit more power. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard here, but a 7-speed DSG can also be selected as an option. 191 km / h can be driven at a maximum.

The currently most powerful engine is the 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 150 hp. A maximum speed of 212 km / h is possible here, the trailer load is a little higher and is 1,200 kilograms in the best case.

VW Taigo Interior and trunk

A look inside reveals that there will be a modern multimedia steering wheel and the infotainment system is the latest, which is based on the modular infotainment construction. Except for the steering wheel, there are hardly any physical buttons to be seen, you get a rather puristic touch surface with which you can also operate the display.

If you want to pay a surcharge, you get partially automated driving. This includes the IQ. Drive Travel Assist, which combines automatic distance control, a lane departure warning system, an environment monitoring system, and the city emergency braking, assistant.

Despite its stylish coupé shape, you hardly have to compromise when it comes to luggage space. The Taigo has a trunk volume of 438 liters. That is almost as much as the maximum that can fit into the T-Cross, which holds 455 liters.

VW provides four equipment lines for the Taigo: Taigo, Life, Style, and R-Line.

Overall, VW tried to make the offer structure simpler and to rule out possible conflicting choices between individual options as much as possible. Depending on the equipment selected, the Taigo can be customized with individual extras. This includes, for example, a roof pack. This allows you to order a contrasting roof in black that sets itself apart from the eight paint colors on offer.

Here is a little more about the individual equipment lines:

Taigo

This is the basic equipment. The focus here is on functionality and a good price-performance ratio. Air conditioning and LED headlights and taillights are standard equipment.

Life

Here you get a good center, which also includes a center armrest at the front, USB-C interface, multifunction steering wheel in leather, black roof rails, and folding exterior mirrors. The front section with a chrome-look crossbar and 16-inch aluminum wheels are also included.

The second top version is R-Line, which focuses on sportiness. Both the exterior and interior underline the sporty positioning of the Taigo in this equipment version. A high-gloss black diffuser at the rear, special seat covers, and the Digital Cockpit Pro are also included.
