VW Tiguan 2023: Version 3 will come with a new design

With the VW Tiguan III, the third generation of the SUV will start in 2023, which, like its predecessor, is based on the modular transverse matrix from Volkswagen. The dimensions and the trunk volume should only change slightly.

The VW Tiguan should remain the champion in the SUV program of Wolfsburg. Because whether Europe, China, or the USA – the current Tiguan is buzzing. The Wolfsburg-based company is currently determining the details of the successor, which will be ready for the market in 2023. The optional seven-seater Tiguan Allspace, which is identical to Seat Tarraco – both roll off the same line in Wolfsburg – will be discontinued in the future and will be replaced by a newcomer from China.

The successor to the current VW Tayron should fix it. The future Tiguan shows more face and flexes its muscles. The design becomes more muscular. In particular, the front section with the massive grill – which, incidentally, is also used in a similar form on the new Passat, which is also scheduled for 2023 – differs significantly. The rear is also completely redesigned. An LED light strip connects the rear lights just below the pane. Three slightly offset LED lenses per rear light give the VW Tiguan III (2023) an unmistakable night design.

New Informations

As before, the VW Tiguan III (2023) is also based on the technology of the MQB modular group construction kit. For purely electric vehicles, the VW Group’s modular e-drive kit (MEB), on which the E-SUV ID.4 is based, is available. That is also the reason why the Tiguan No. 3 will remain a modern combustion engine. Part of this optimization is increasing hybridization. VW relies heavily on mild hybrids, i.e. on 48-volt technology. Further plug-in hybrids would be technically possible, but the additional price would put off many interested parties.

In the future, the mix of the well-known 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine (150 hp) and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel and gasoline engines, which cover a performance range from 125 to 320 hp, will remain. And the Tiguan hybrid, which is exactly 1395 cubic centimeters in size, also remains in the range. Switching the plug-in hybrid to the slightly larger 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine would undoubtedly improve its economies of scale, but would also ensure that the Tiguan would be classified in a higher tax bracket in some export markets. The electric range is likely to scrape along with the 100-kilometer limit.

For weight reasons, more does not make sense, since the mass of the energy storage device increases with the capacity. The electric range is likely to scrape along with the 100-kilometer limit. VW Tiguan 2023 Dimensions

In addition, the VW Tiguan III 2023 will be trimmed more towards digitization and online networking. The future cockpit, for example, borrows from that of the Golf 8 – such as the touch surface for lights and defrosting. A “slide function” controls the temperature setting under the customizable, high-resolution central display with a touchscreen. The planners see the Tiguan as a kind of extended study and living room.

For example, the front passenger can do business tasks while the children in the back seat use streaming services. Even if the dimensions of the VW Tiguan III 2023 have not yet been clarified, it is likely to grow minimally in size at best – the trunk volume will be correspondingly generous (currently 615 to 1665 liters).
