Mercedes is expected to bring the Mercedes-AMG G-Class 4×4 onto the market in 2021, but the performance version will not be available until 2022. A prototype was recently spotted again. We tell you what we know and have the latest pictures.
We probably wouldn’t have expected to see the Mercedes-AMG G-Class 4×4 so quickly. Mercedes does not shy away from equipping the rustic off-road classic with a powerful AMG engine. In 2021, the powerful vehicle with all-wheel drive will be launched as a 2022 model.
- Market launch probably in 2021
- 4.0-liter V-8 engine with 577 hp
- all-wheel drive
- Raised body
- Roof rack and spare wheel
Technical data and exterior design

Despite the fast engine, the G-Class remains true to its cornerstone, it is practical. Therefore, the car has a roof rack and a spare wheel that is attached to the rear. In addition, the model comes with large ground clearance, the body is considerably higher.
Visually, customers have to do without the two-side exhaust pipes at the rear. The prototype sighted does not show these exhaust holes. The well-known round headlights and the angular body design are of course retained.
Engines and driving behavior
A 4.0-liter V-8 engine with 2 turbos can be expected under the bonnet. The cheaper M176 has around 416 hp and is said to accelerate the car from 0 to 100 in 5.9 seconds. It’s even faster with the AMG M177. This offers 577 hp and takes the car from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds.

In line with the car’s off-road focus, the AMG G-Class is now being equipped with all-wheel drive. Diesel engines like the G 350d and G 400d, however, have no chance of a 4×4 equipment.
2022 Mercedes-AMG G-Class 4×4 Price
The Mercedes-AMG G-Class is expected to come onto the market in 2021. So far, we can only speculate about the price range. The Mercedes G-Class is between 103,150 and 160,680 euros. With AMG technology, the price should be above this range. A starting price of around 140,000 euros appears realistic.
