BYD launches hybrid SUV with 1030 km range

The Chinese brand BYD, which is slowly making its way in Europe, has launched a new model. And it looks like it will reach European markets at some point, not with its main brand, but with the Denza brand, which has already been discussed in recent weeks. This is the second model the brand has launched in this Denza N series after launching the Denza N8 and Denza N7. After all, it replaces the old Denza X with some great features.

BYD’s new  Denza N8 has a body length of 4.94 meters, 1.95 meters wide, and 1.72 meters long, as well as a 2.83-meter wheelbase. A large model, even larger than the BYD Tang, which is sold today in Europe and exclusively with fully electric mechanics. In the case of the Denza N8, of course, they have been based on the same design language as the Denza N7, which seems to be the one that will be the brand’s new line of models. It has level 2+ driving assistance functions with  24 sensors among which there are 12 ultrasonic radars, five-millimeter wave radars, and six cameras. At a technological level, as is customary at BYD, it has the latest and most cutting-edge on the market.

The keys to the Denza N8, the new BYD SUV even bigger than the BYD Tang and with totally different mechanics

While the BYD Tang – the one sold in Spain – is fully electric, for this model the Asian brand has opted for a  hybrid powertrain. In recent days there has been talk after a unit has been seen undergoing emissions tests, that  BYD plug-in hybrids could soon arrive in Europe. So you have to be attentive to this type of mechanical configuration of the brand. The Denza N8 has a  1.5 Turbo engine along with two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle, with an all-wheel drive system.

Thanks to this configuration, with a total of three engines, the new BYD SUV reaches a maximum power of 482 hp and can, among other things, accelerate from  0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. A surprising figure of course, because we are not talking about an SUV that is precisely compact in its dimensions. The maximum speed of the Denza N8 is  190 km/h and declares a consumption of  6.45 L/100 km, with an energy efficiency of the electrical system of 18.2 kWh/100 km.

The electrical part features the usual  BYD Blade battery, with an energy storage capacity of  45.8 kWh. Thanks to this unit, it can offer a  range of 216 km in fully electric mode, according to NEDC, and reach a  maximum of 1,030 km of combined range. It comes with bi-directional charging up to 6 kW output and can be charged at 90 kW peak power. The figures for its electrical part are surprising because we are talking about a large SUV with plug-in hybrid mechanics, but it has a battery and a dual-motor drivetrain that could certainly be typical of an all-electric car. With that range, in Spain, the DGT Zero label would be directly earned. And also in a baggy way.

Well, this  Denza N8 can be configured with 5, 6, or 7 seats depending on the needs of each client, and as usual in BYD it has a  reference interior both for design and for qualities and technological equipment. Among other things, it has a central screen, for the multimedia system, with a  15.6-inch diagonal and 2.5K resolution. In addition, it has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch Head-Up Display. The sound system is high fidelity and is signed by Dynaudio, and in the rear seats it has an additional touch screen that is used to control the climate control independently.
