Right now in Europe, the MG 4 is probably the best electric car you can buy for its relationship between price and performance. It starts from just 19,480 euros, and in its most economical version, it already has 350 km of range and an interesting electric motor with 170 HP maximum power. But during next year 2024, two new cheap electric cars will hit the market that could put the MG compact in trouble. Especially because, although their approach is different, they aim to be even cheaper than the MG 4. This is the information we already know about them.
The latest reports suggest that 2024 will finally be a great year for cheap European electric cars. And we also have official information in this regard that supports this statement. The first to arrive will be presented this month of October, although it will reach dealerships at the beginning of 2024. It is the new Citroën ë-C3, which will have a crossover-type body with a length of just over 4 meters, and its price will be between 22,000 to 25,000 euros according to data from Stellantis itself. That is, from 15,000 to 18,000 euros counting on the MOVES III Plan.
They will be the biggest rivals of MG 4 in terms of price
So far, Stellantis has officially revealed this price range, which will place the Citroën ë-C3 in a really interesting position, and will also offer more than 300 km of range. So, effectively, although the MG 4 has versions with up to 520 km of range and with more power, the Citroën ë-C3 can pose a big problem for the cheaper versions of MG’s electric compact. In addition, in the summer of 2024, the FIAT Panda 2024 will arrive using the same technology and with an even lower price, although it will be similar in performance.
Regarding the mechanical configuration, the Citroën ë-C3 and the new FIAT Panda 2024 should have an electric motor with at least 136 HP of maximum power, while they will be built on the Stellantis CMP platform. And this is the same engine that the Opel Corsa Electric uses. Now, this platform also has a second engine option that reaches 156 HP, so this powertrain possibility is also open.
Regarding the Citroën ë-C3, the French brand itself has already announced that it will come much more equipped than, for example, a Dacia Spring comes standard. It will have air conditioning and other critical elements, such as electric windows. So we can expect that the MG 4 will continue to stand out among cheap electric cars for including much more complete standard equipment. But, at the same time, the Citroën ë-C3, with an even cheaper price, will be an option in which we do not miss anything that is considered essential.
Both the Citroën ë-C3 and the new FIAT Panda 2024 will fit into a lower segment to which the MG 4 belongs. And yes, the MG 4 will continue to have versions with more range and configurations with more power. However, these two new Stellantis models aim to be cheaper electric cars that compete directly with the configuration of the MG 4 starting for less than 20,000 euros. And they will fit exactly with what the European market has been demanding for years, which are truly cheap electric cars. And that they serve as the only car, which is something that the Dacia Spring cannot fulfill and the expected Hyundai Casper does not have among its claims either due to its limited range.
