Volvo C40 Recharge: Will come in 2022

Volvo has introduced the coupe version of the XC40 called the C40. The C40 Recharge is, according to the Volvo electric concept, the second fully electric SUV from the Swedes. We have all the information and the latest pictures of the new E- SUV for you.

On March 2, 2021, Volvo presented the new C40 Recharge – the manufacturer’s first specially developed electric car and an alternative to the popular XC40 in coupé style. Read on to find out all the details.

The new Volvo C40 Recharge is a new electric car from Volvo based on the practical and safe XC40, but with a sleeker, coupe-like roofline. It is an alternative to the new Mercedes EQA with a range of 418 kilometers and two electric motors. Later this year, it will be available exclusively through Volvo’s online car purchase service.

New Volvo C40 Recharge: design

Volvo C40 Recharge

The new Volvo C40 Recharge looks significantly sportier than the XC40 SUV on which it is based. The biggest change is the curved roof, but the side skirts and bumpers are also new.

The headlights have the “Thor’s Hammer” headlight design typical of Volvo, but the high beams are equipped with the new pixel LED technology. The brake lights have a similar angular design as on other Volvo models and extend from the tailgate almost to the roof.

There’s also a small spoiler at the base of the rear window and lots of contrasting black details, including the roof, wheel arches, and lower bumper panels.

Battery and range

The new Volvo C40 Recharge is equipped with a 78 kWh battery as standard. According to the manufacturer, that’s big enough to drive around 418 kilometers between charging processes.

Volvo says the batteries on the new C40 can charge from full to 80% in around 40 minutes, although it has not yet been announced what type of public fast-charging stations the new car will be compatible with.

Volvo plans to roll out software updates for the new C40 that will increase the vehicle’s range by enabling more efficient use of the battery charge. Dramatic increases are unlikely to be expected when these updates are released – they will likely come in the form of incremental updates over time.

The Volvo C40 Recharge is equipped as standard with two electric motors that accelerate it from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds. That’s only 0.2 seconds slower than the Polestar 2.

Volvo C40 Recharge interior

Volvo has confirmed that every new electric car that comes onto the market from now on will be equipped with a leather-free interior, i.e. it is vegan. But that doesn’t mean that the interior feels cheap or less qualitative because of it – the leather-free alternatives in existing Volvos (such as woolen fabrics and wood paneling) still feel very classy inside.

Volvo C40 Recharge

The new Volvo C40 Recharge is equipped with the latest infotainment system from Volvo, which is based on the same Google operating system used in Android phones. This means that you can access Google Maps, the Google Play Store, and the Google Assistant directly from your vehicle’s infotainment system without having to connect your smartphone to Android Auto.

Prices and launch

The new Volvo C40 Recharge will be the first new Volvo to be offered exclusively through the company’s online car sales platform. This means that you can configure your vehicle online and take out your financing package.
